i just baught a 77 olympique 340 f/c seem to have problems with the points. First off, i got the olypmic 340, and it never seems to want to idle. I adjusted the carburator and rejetted it, but still nothing. i even tryed another carb ( both mikunis) i got in and replaced the whole stator plate ( points, condensors) and it ran a little better, and idled. I dorve it around about 3 times, and then it started to to act up again and not idle. then it started to pop and backfireand everything went all haywire. it ened up blowing out the crank seals, which i went and replaced, then i went through and tested the coils, and reset the points. it got better, but i drove it around and the same thing started to happen again. the motor idled so low, that i had to hold the gas full throttle for about 5 seconds until the motor would get up to speed.
:cussing:
i have no clue why it keeps on doin this. i believe that the point gap keeps moving? is there something i am missing? Is there any way that i can convert these engines over to CDI???

Sorry if this reply is a little out of sync....i'm a little new to all this, it sounds to me like you may have a fuel delivery problem..as in an intake leak...there may be a crack or warped flange in the tube or pipe or the gasket in between that passes for an intake manifold (should be located directly between the carb and engine.) It may also be do to the carbs..as I don't know offhand what the carb looks like, check for over tightened screws, etc.
I hope this helps

I had installed new fuel lines at the beginning of the season, and i checked the fuel pump. I started to rip apart the engine, and i am going to check the o-rings on the manifold, and i may to a leak down test to see if the cases are sealing. i have gone through the carb, and the ignition 2 or 3 times., and i am not sure what it is...
Thanks for the help!
