Well last saturday the XC's steering post got bend during a rollover. Thankfully we were able to bend it back close to the orignal position but now it is weakened and we are pondering up ideas on how to strengthen it. The flat mounting plate on top of the post is what bent and the now idea is to mount a 3/4 plate ontop od the orignal one and weld a 1 1/2 inch lonng pipe to the now plate that will fit inside the steering post shaft (does that make sense to you....I am trying :D ). Anybody else have any recommendations or past experiences with this kind of problems? Replacint the post at this time is not an option... maybe in the summer but probly not going to happen. I have access to a stick welder but I am not no expert on welding so I am going to try to keep it simple I am giong to repair it. Here is a picture of the post bent back close to the orignal position. I inspected it and didnt see any cracks in the factory weld.

i would just weld longer gussets on the underside of the plate.
