I bought my sled last year (00' mxz700) and love it. the problem is that I am going through belts like crazy. I have put roughly 800 miles on it and just toasted my third belt. Every time it is just tearing off a section of the lugs any where between 4" long to 10" this last time. Need to know do I have a clutch alignment problem? What is my problem? I need to know buying these belts is getting a little expensive.

Yes, you could very well have a clutch alignment problem, and/or your belt deflection may be set improperly.

I suggest purchasing a service manual for your sled. It will give you a full description of how to do this as well as a million other things. A manual is cheaper than a belt and definately cheaper than three.

Clutch alignment tool run about $20 and are well worth the money.
Perform the alignment and then set the belt deflection. Three belts in 800 miles is way too much.

I have a 2000 700 manual. If you want I can scan the pages needed to perform the alignment and deflection and email it to you? Just PM me with your email address.

If your alignment and deflection are good, then you might have a weak secondary spring causing some belt slippage that will EAT belts.

If you've been running in deep snow you can take off the windage plates if you have them on the secondary faces. This prevents heat build and belt wear.

first u need to verify your offset and centre to centre are set properly.
more than likely you need to make an adjustment to one of those specs.

Be sure to break in your new belts for about 30 miles or so. No hard acceleration, and keep it below half throttle.

sounds like center to center distance is too great. belt cogs are grinding to hard on clutch pulley shaft, or the primary spring is way to stiff. got a agressive clutch kit in that machine?

no aggressive clutch kit. stock sled basically gonna try to get some buddies over this weekend and use the info you guys gave me and check it out.

So how'd you work out?

checked it out and it was within the specs. My dealer thought it mioght be the engine mounts but they were all in tack.

Did you check the torque stop as well?

Are you using the correct Bombardier belt?

Perhaps it's time to clean out the clutches and replace bushings, shoes, springs, etc.

do you have a broken or loose torque arm if that sled has one? my mach was eating belts every 5 minutes till i found out the torque arm was broken
