I've got a 1997 Mach1. Picked up a rebuild crank shaft and a new crank case. The new crank case does not have the hole drilled in between the two pto bearings.
Should I drill a hole in the crank case for the fuel mixture to lube the two bearings or should I just pack the bearings with isoflex grease (aircraft grease)?
I'm really lost on what the better option is. Ideas?????

there was some sort of a recall or technical service bulletin that suggested drilling out the journals on that motor.

Personally, if I was going to do it again (I have a 98 FIII 700 that smoked the PTO bearing) I would add an extra oil line like the 99 and up triples have that delivers oil directly to the right spot. If that isn't an option then drill the case.

I would drill the hole AND use the isoflex grease. That's what my friend did with my old engine, and he has over 8000 trouble free miles on it since he put it back together. I ended up with a engine out of a '99 FIII 700.
I think I'll add an additional oil line from the oil tank to the crank (between the pto bearings). I guess the bearings will be submersed in oil as the compartment is sealed off from the rest of the engine.
Am I right in my thinking?
