my first time ever in Eagle river and i have known about this place since 1972. it really is the snowmobile capital of the world. there were more vehicles towing sleds then not on the streets.

the Eagle river world championship snowmobile derby building. this was exciting for me because i had seen pictures of the 1972 big race that Mike Trapp won on a Yamaha 2 years in a row.

Paul, looks like conditions were good for your trip. Did Pete & Laurie rent the place or do they own it?

I was @ Eagle River last November when they had 6" of snow on the ground. The second time I've been thru there & still haven't seen any races :( I've been to Duluth for the sno x, so maybe I'll get to Eagle River one of these years.

Obviously very quiet around there when there aren't any races. I guess you could say that place is to oval racing like Daytona is to NASCAR.

Pete will have to tell you because i'm not sure. he knew where the wood was in the garage for the fireplace and that there was a coffee maker there.

heated floors in the place and everything you were wearing all day could be left on the floor to get toasty warm for the next day.

nice warm boots. :inlove:

Paul, I've been going to Eagle River/St Germain since 1982, and have always said no one signs their trails like that area does. If a person gets lost up there, it's only because they have no clue how to read! :D That area is still my favorite, but I've come to appreciate what the UP has to offer also.

Jim, the signage is fantastic. when i'm not leading i never pay close attention to where the group is going but i figured out a few places just from the signs.

i think the summer cometh i am going to hit on a few musky lakes up there. i was always told if you want to catch lots of good size musky then wisconsin is the place.

The Pilsner is very well prorected, and is NEVER allowed to freeze. :D

We do have lots of snow this year, though!

Pete, can't mistake that set of trees....right across the street from St Germain Marine (or whatever its called now) and the Wolfpack Cafe...we always stop by that cafe a couple times because the food is great and manager/owner has a great personality.

Right on Jim! We ate at the Wolf Pack every morning. One of the gals there was giving Paul a hard time about his accent. :p

an area tough to beat for sure. very wide bush trails that are easy to navigate, the bush trails in my local are very narrow and i'm not complaining. up in our north the trails that i have experienced are super wide and fast. i feel the st germain trails are a combination of my local and our north.

If a group ride was planned for that area, I'd think about heading that way. MN is a 2 day drive for me, so a bit far for me to consider.

To add to the frivolity that the posts on SW are noted for, the topic name reminds me of a cd by Static X, "Wisconsin Death Trip". Paul, you'd enjoy it :D
