Hey guys,
My sled is running perfect except when I'm at full throttle on the lake - and then it starts cutting out! It feels like an electrical problem....almost the same feeling as a rev limiter on a car - kind of a cough. Like I say, it is running perfect other than that; so what could this be? I tried changing the plugs but that didn't work....any ideas?

My guess is the infamous throttle safety switch. Install the bypass plug to disable the switch and see if that makes a difference. The typical fix is to replace the washers on the throttle pivot pin. The bypass plug is goes into the three prong connector near the base of the handle bars, it jumps the enclosed connector to the middle exposed connector. This will disable the kill switch, so you'll have to use the key to shut it off.

I have the same dang problem. Only thing is, mine doesn't do it all the time. One ride it will, next ride it won't. I have to wait for it to do it again before I can try to figure it out.

when its cutting out try moving the throttle to slightly different positions like push more up and more down on the throttle and see if that solves it if it does you know its the throttle safety switches but if that doesn't do it, it could be a lot of different things i once had a 97 ZL 440 that would cut out like that at full throttle and it ended up being one of the coils on the stator on that model two of the coils were replaceable and it ended up being one of them but im pretty sure that on the 580's there isn't any replaceable coils so you would have to get a new stator but hopefully thats not the problem hope this helps a little

Thanks for the help guys.....I guess I'm not alone.
I don't think it could be the throttle safety switches because whoever owned the sled before me bypassed them.
I am going to check the voltages at the coils and stator to see if they are the culprits. I will also replace those throttle pivot washers.
Thanks.

If the throttle safety switch is allready bypassed don't bother replacing the washers.

Seems to be a very common problem with the cat EFI'S with some age on them I know 4 EFI cats doing the same exact thing. I have a 94 Wildcat with the same problem. If you do a Google search on efi's cutting out you will find a lot of people with this same problem. I am going to try a new TPS. If anybody has solved this problem with the cats let us know. It is not a swith problem. Like you said cuts out at around 7500. it is also harder on fuel than normal. also it you let the sled set for about 15 mins it goes like hell for about 2 mins and then right back to the cutting out :cussing: A couple of post I read on the internet said they have changed stators with no help. I will see it the throttle position sensor helps. May be the answer..... :!:
