I recently transplanted a 89' 583 mach 1 engine in an 87' Indy 600 chassis. I am trying to figure out what kind of rpm that engine should be turning @ 8000 feet. Any information would be helpful. Also if anyone has done a similar conversion and could share clutching or jetting information that would be great. Thanks

In stock form the 583 typically like to turn 78-8000 rpms.

I am in the slow process of doing the same thing. How did you hook your wiring up on yours? I have no idea where to go with jetting for mine either. I am using Decker pipes made for this conversion. What pipes are you using?
As far as clutching, I am using a Polaris primary. I got a bunch of Polaris springs and weights to try out. What are you using for a primary?

I am running the stock pipe, and polaris drive and driven clutches. My dad had to machine the drive clutch to make it fit and for jets I am running 240 in the PTO and 260 MAG, using mikuni flat slide carbs. As for the wiring I got the information from an old Precision Performance Catalog, apparently they use to sell a kit for the conversion.
Rotax Engine Polaris chassis
Yellow...........splice into (2)yellows
Yellow/black..splice into Brown
Brown...........splice into Brown
PP recommends this set up for 6000'. 44mm carbs, 7EG6-3 needle, AA3 needle jet, 2.5 slides, and anywhere from 370/250 mains, also a 30 pilot jet.
On my drive clutch I''m using 53 gram weights and a blue spring and I'm turning 7500 rpm's. Not sure about my driven clutch.
PP recommends using a polaris clutch with 10A weights and gold spring in the drive clutch. In the driven it says to use a grey spring no. 2 hole and 40/36 helix.
If I wasn't so cheap I would follow thier set up, as it is I'll just have to keep tring new stuff with whatever I can find laying around. Good luck.

AT 8000 ft. main jet pto 190
mag 210
pilot jet 45
needle jet 480 P 2
jet needle 6DH8
clip position 1
throttle valve 2.5
pilot air screw 3/4
idle speed 2400-2600
That is the set up for a 89 Mach 583 straight out of the book. Hope it helps , and good luck on the conversion.

Thanks for the wiring info Brian.
Mine is somewhat of a kit also. The mounting plate is all made up and they sell the pipes also.
