Hi, having a little problem with a 94 stx with a 583 rave. It seems to load up? At idle or a slow pace it is awfully smokey (smells rich) but when you get on it, its smokey then clears up until back at idle or slow pace. I have changed the needle and seats,float level looks good air mix was at 1 turn now 1 1/4. When I pulled the carbs it was wet (gas)in the carb mounying flanges. Uses gas big time!Checked cylinder pressure and it is 126psi on each. Has about 2600+ miles on it. When you punch it seems to go pretty good. What am I overlooking!

Sounds like it's rich at idle. Are you sure about the condition/setting of the floats?

Improperly adjusted or sticking RAVE valves can cause gas loading up issues. Clean them and make sure the springs aren't wore out. Red adjusters should be all the way in for sea level. What happens is the exhaust timing gets thrown off so your intake charge gets overloaded which is why you have gas on your carb boots.

Got something wrong in the idle circuit such as plugged pilot jets, plugged air circuits leading to pilots, stuck choke, needles in the wrong position. Buddy of mine was having fits with his Polaris and come to find out he bottomed out the air screws so tight he broke the lower part of the jet off in the carb! Now he may have to buy new carbs!
Also 126psi is rather low, mine had 150 but gauges do differ.
