I can't say that I have a trip planned. We ride generally in Vilas Co. Wisc.(the snowmobile capital of the world *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )when the snow is good. Or I just put miles on in my imediate area.

I would like to hook up with a few guys, like Yarek. I never met my Daddy yet. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hopefully gonna do the "snowmobilers from ####" trip, its about a week long, and a few weekend trips to the cottage. *I live in such a good snowmobiling area that I put a ton of miles on around home.

Nothing "planned", but will probably meet up with my bestfriend and ride in the UP for a weekend. He's short on weekends because he races, so maybe I better call him now and make plans. lol
My parents live up in Houghton Lake, so I'll probably ride up there too.
Man, I can't wait till winter!!!

There is never a lot of snow in my area that we can count on, so we have a standing trip planned to Northern Ontario every winter with friends and family. *Usually in Feb. we head north of Sudbury and usually take a ride up to Timmins and stay a night. *We usually leave on a Friday and come back the following Sunday. *This year I might have to make it a two week trip to make up for last year since we didn't get to go. *I forget the name of the place we stay at now. *I'll check. *We used to stay at Three Bears Camp near Shinning Tree. *Anyone ride that area?

jayjaysin, I have friends that have cottages in Gogama and have ridden there a number of times. Nice riding in that area and basically no traffic.
No big trips set for me yet this year I will wait to see where the snow is ......or if there is snow ....I like to try different areas each year for atleast one trip . Going to New liskard is starting to get boring I have rode the trails more there than some of my own clubs trails. Maybe the RAP tour around Algonquin Park ??

If anyone is planning a RAP tour, let me know, I've done it once & my parents did it the winter of '01.

Indy, w/ the Ontario info you get from me, you shouldn't have any problems planning a trip. The only thing is the trails in the Haliburton area suck on the weekends. Depending on where you start, you can avoid them.

Going to spend a week in Elk Lake riding the TATA trails as usual. There are a lot of good day loops (200 to 300k) from there and you can always count on lots of the white stuff.

Rollo, find out from Troy Wilson @ Auld Reekie Lodge in Gowganda if the Elk Lake club got a new tractor. He's the club president. They had problems with the Massey last winter. We were thru Elk Lake twice a week apart & both times the trails were brutal.

In an email he said the tractor screwed up twice & was down for a couple of weeks. He was sorry about the conditions. 2 years ago when we went thru, the trails were perfect, so I knew something must have been wrong.

Also, have you or IndySKS rode from Elk Lake to Timmins via Matachewan & Gogama? I'm curious about running that way from New Liskeard, instead of going up TOP A to Val Gagne and over.

Indy sks, the snowmobiler riders from #### trip is around a thousand miles. its about 150 guys, who all meet in Northbay and ride through quebec and back into Ontario. *The trip cost about $500. and that includes all your hotel rooms, oil and booze. {in the hotel room}, and also quebec trail permit. *The trip is five days, four nites. *The trip is at the end of feb.

No trips planned for out of state, just the usual "have to go where the snow is"- Tug Hill, best on weekdays to avoid the crowds.

Revrnd, when we were at Elk Lake last year it snowed almost the entire time, so it was difficult for the groomers to keep up. THere does seem to be alot of trouble with equipment around there though.
Also, there was a new trail installed last year from Shining tree to Timmins. THat way you don't need to go all the way over to Gogama. It's on a power line. We got from Timmins back down to Matachewan in about 3-4 hours. It is not a TOPS trail yet.

Our annual 4 day run is being finalized as I type. Rooms are being reserved with a credit card.

Last year was 750 miles. This year will be a little more I think.

Going to N.H., Maine, N. B. and Quebec for the winter. Bought our retirement home in White Mts of N.H. Hope to ride from the house north. Will spend majority of the time in the Saguenay-Lac St. Jean area. However am planning on one big trip 1,500 to 2,000 miles. Northern and Western Quebec. Right now 6 of us going. Do not want anymore for this long of a trip. Could end up being 4. There is one thing good about getting old. I can snowmobile all winter. Come on Winter.

planning a trip from Arnprior to Northbay to Obabika Lake where a friend of mine lives all year round. *from there we will cruise the Temagami area for a couple of days before we head back south.

Panteraone, there is such a thing as too much snow. *We were deciding wether or not to leave the day they got that dump in late feb I think it was. *Our friend that owns the Getaway Lodge that we stay at said that there was soooo much snow that the groomers couldn't get out, you couldn't break the trails, the weight of all the snow cracked the ice and forced water up on top of the ice and made all the lakes 4' of slush over the ice base. *And in that area, you can't get very far without crossing a lake.

Revrend and Rollo, yeah great riding up there. *My father-in-law has been going up there for like 20 yrs, he and the previous owner from Three Bears, Slim, blazed and marked a lot of those trails up there. *He knows the place like the back of his hand. *Good guy to go riding with. *My favorite streach is the Grassy Road between Shinning Tree and Timmins. *Man, you can really oper her up there. *It's about 30' wide and I think 3 or 4 miles long, rolling terrain and sweeping bends. *Man, when you hit those humps at 80-90 mph I think my sled is gonna flip over from wind resisitance like you see those jet boats due. *I know that's not gonna happen but that's what it feels like. *Love the riding in that area. *Usually good snow, good people, good fishing, and lots of good riding. *Can't wait to get there again this year. *I'll let you know when we'll be there when it gets closer.

grassy road is a nice ride ,usually ride there once or twice a year,i guess to much wet snow in an area where lakes dont freeze is not good, but up here in cochrane the more the snow the better, our lakes freeze from the end of nov to beg of april, and we get 3-4 for feet of ice on them

jayjaysin
08-24-2002, 02:20 PM
Yeah, they get several feet of ice on the lakes, but last year they froze early, and the weight of the snow causes pressure cracks in the ice and forces water up through them. *Also the holes that we drill for fishing also is a place for the water to get up through.
