: Fogged up glasses
40below0 08-22-2002, 11:34 AM Hi all,
I normally wear glasses while driving my car. *I tried last year to wear them while wearing my helmet, but I found that they always fogged up. *I've seen alot of people wear glasses while wearing a helmet.. but mine always seemed to fog up.. so I don't wear them.
My helmet is an HJC, with the mouth separator.
Does anyone know any "grandpa's old medicine" procedures that will prevent my glasses from fogging up?
Thanks
FishHog 08-22-2002, 11:46 AM My wife had the same problem. *
Some of the commercial no-fog solutions will help, but she had the best luck with a NOFOG mask. *Basically just keeps your breath from getting up to your glasses.
A little more ventilation in your helmet will help if possible.

michahicks 08-22-2002, 12:11 PM I'm using the same or a similar helmet. I've found that the windshield makes all the difference in the world. Doesn't have to be one of the huge ones, mid-height (stock on most machines) works fine, low profiles don't work at all. Lot's of aggravation for me too, not wearing glasses, or driving fogged not an option for me. Like to see where I'm going.

sledcrazy 08-22-2002, 03:03 PM get some rubbing alchohol and just clean then with it, and they wont fog up. *helped with my goggles this year.
snowrider357 08-22-2002, 03:26 PM I have the seemproblem and I brought a Lazer Blizzard and it help me no problems at all with fogging and you can put it on with your glass on.
40below0 08-22-2002, 04:14 PM Thanks for your replies.
What is a lazer blizzard? if you dont mind my asking.
I also have a medium windshield.. the thing is, my bifocals fog up when I'm standing with my helmet on walking towards my sled.
I tried one of my buddy's electric visor.. but it didn't even help a bit.
ARCTICZRT600 08-22-2002, 04:37 PM The Lazer Blizzard is a helmet.
michahicks 08-22-2002, 05:47 PM Just a guess, but I'd say it's a modular helmet.
I have the same problem when standing up to get crazy in the rough stuff. Haven't figured out a cure for that one either.

Mikadoo 08-22-2002, 06:51 PM There is nothing out there that works for any extended period of time. As some one said a mid-height windshield is the first step. For me, an open faced helmet was the norm for many years. Trying different full faced helmets several times over the years and wasting a lot of money was also the norm! Then came the skidoo modular helmet, what a godsend for us eyeglass wearers!!!!!! I would drop kick the person that ever stole it! This helmet is 95% fog free only fogging when you get yourself worked up like getting stuck. I also tryed the no-fog masks, what a pain in the arse to put on and with your breath exiting out the bottom you get ice built up and running down your front looking like a mad frothing dog.
mr670 08-22-2002, 08:17 PM A no-fog mask is all that works for me and I have tried everything out there. maybe a pain to get on and off, but if thats all that works, you gotta doo wat you gotta doo.
There is always contact lenes
IndySKS 08-22-2002, 08:22 PM Just get a skidoo modular helmet. Best investment I ever made , once you get used to it you will never regret it *I bought my wife a new helmet last year with a heated visor....what joke it was . As soon as finances will allow she will be wearing a modular as
well. The only down fault of the ski doo modular is the exhaust vents will freeze up in extreme cold weather riding...my solution was to add a piece of duct tape over the vent on the side the wind is blowing from...it seemed to help....and Red Green would have been proud !
Just my unsolicited 2 cents
LicknOutaTheCatsDish 08-22-2002, 09:01 PM I told the wife to get that lazer eye surgery, that didn't go over very well, maybe contact lens?? *We're still looking for a solution!
ballsout1 08-22-2002, 10:25 PM I just got some *persciption *goggles, and will try a motocross helmet this year, I had *real good luck with a electric sheild, just keep it closed.
byoffcr 08-22-2002, 10:42 PM Balls out they work perfect no fog
007oodiks 08-22-2002, 11:49 PM The skidoo mod is the only thing that works for me,they are even better if you use a mid hight windshield. They do take some gettin use to but if you want to wear the glasses you must find what works. If you try a mod whenever you stop for a brake put the mask in you`re coat close to you`re chest to keep it warm. * jeff in nh
Get an electric shield and ditch the breather deflector. Trust me,it works. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif

Why? *did she have a fit about the $1500 price tag? *I know people who've gotten it done, and I can't wait to get it myself.
Wolfman 08-23-2002, 06:02 PM The only time I had a problem was with my baclava. *I tried to have it over my nose and cheeks to keep warm. *This caused my breath to force by the deflector, and onto my glasses. *When I finally DID figure it out, I fixed that problem, but found out just how COLD it can get with air being forced through the vents at 45 mph. *Unfortunately, the vents on my helmet can't be closed. *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
ballsout1 08-23-2002, 06:08 PM That laser stuff, in my opinion is a very, very viable option. If you try something new every year,.... glasses, helmets , modulars, goggles, no fog gizmo`s, more helmets, heated sheilds, after 5 years of almost crashing because you cnt se sht... your half way up to the 1500 anyways.. i DOO *think about it for myself.
40below0 08-27-2002, 06:41 AM Sorry to bring this post up again.
When a few of your were talking about the "No Fog" mask, is this the same as an electric visor?
Also, I have been reading about the breath deflectors, has anyone used one?
Thanks again.
Mikadoo 08-27-2002, 03:21 PM The no-fog 'is' a breath deflector. It straps to your face with velcro, is very uncomfortable and all your breath moisture runs down the front of your jacket and freeze's to it!
When the gang all stops for a breather you better start getting it back on 5 min's early or get left behind. The no fog is a joke! Would you like to buy mine or better yet, give me your address and you can have it!
When you learn how to use the modular helmet it is IMO the best thing out there.......
dooman 08-27-2002, 03:26 PM I agree with mikadoo on the mask and the helmet, but I will also add the no fog does work and the new brand fog evader has fleece lining to make it more comfortable.
Do the Doo 09-02-2002, 11:10 PM Go to your local ski shop and buy the No Fog Goop. It is a cream that looks like vasiline. You need a clean cotten clothe to apply. I have the same helmet and the visor use to fog all the time. I do have a breathe deflector but i find it does not work as well as Bombardier Modular helmet. This year, I am going to the electric visor. I found the goop after 10F and lower does not work as well as electric. Glasses are tough to keep from fogging. Good luck with all the advice. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
ZMachMan 09-03-2002, 04:55 AM I have tried just about everything from Cat Crap to Ivory Soap. * While they work for short period of time, *the only thing that solved my problem was Contacts. * My wife and I always wear Contacts when snowmobiling. * It's the only 100% solution that I have found.

maluchm 09-03-2002, 12:34 PM ZMachMan - I assume that when you say "cat crap" you're
talking about the stuff you can buy at the sled shed and
not the real deal right? *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Do the Doo 09-06-2002, 09:21 PM cow manure is better than cat crap. *hehehehe http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Skully 09-07-2002, 07:00 PM All right I got the answer. My wife bought one of those “home remedy” books from the bookstore. You know the one where they tell you to use peanut butter to get ink out of anything. In this book they claim if you rub traditional white Colgate Toothpaste on your glasses or shield it won’t fog up. I’ve never tried it so I don’t know if it works, but it might be worth a try and for the smokers in the group there’s no reason to use tarter control.
WARNING: This could possibly scratch the helmet lens so try it on a lens you don’t care about and let us know what happens.

Skully 09-07-2002, 07:07 PM For the record the peanut butter trick didn’t work on a leather couch. Ouch!!!

performancex 09-09-2002, 03:19 PM Sure it won't fog up, but how do you see thru toothpaste? *J/K, i'm sure step 2 is to wipe it off.
There's not a doubt in my mind it won't scratch the heck out of your goggles. *How do you think flouride cleans your teeth?
P.S. I scratched the heck out of my goggles last winter wiping them off with my sweatshirt. *I'll be more careful with the Oakleys I bought at Haydays dirt cheap.
