: Project X Skis On A Gsx?

i've got 2 GSX 600 SDI's that i use for saddlebagging in the UP. 90% of our riding is on the trail, with the occasional off-road excursion. i've noticed the darting problem with the precision skis. do you think it's worthwhile to change to the project X skis, even though i'm not a ditch-banger?
any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks!

We just installed a new set of USI-SPX skis on the 05 RX-1, very happy with the increased floatation and very light steering effort. Look for a article on the front page in the next couple of days.

Dave, how much did you have to pay for them?

IMO the precision ski is just down right dangerous. I've tried different carbides and found bergstroms to make a difference and last a long time. As well as shimming the saddle as they seem to have too much pressure on the front on the ski. Again Bergstrom can supply the shims. The Project X ski is great but it can get tiring on long mile runs if the trails are twisty as most report heavy steering effort compared to the precisions.

I disagree with them being dangersous in all conditions. Maybe in the deep snow, and on trails with stock carbides and suspension not setup, BUT with a few changes and adjustments that are alot less than the cost of a new set of skis they work great on groomed trails.

I have the same sled, with a set of Bergstrom triple point. Night and day difference from the stock carbides. And with the suspension setup, the turning force is not that bad on mine. I am going to shim them to see how much a difference that makes on the turning pressure. But all around the new carbides helped with the darting, and with the push in corners.

The project X skis are great, no darting really, and steers excellent in all conditions, but like rob said above, you will have arms like popeye after riding a year in the trails with them. The pressure is alot more than the precisions on my sled. Is it worth the $400-$500, for me no, as I ride 95% trails and I have my precisions working like I want them to. For someone that rides alot of powder it might be.

www.bergstromskegs.com. Scott is the owner and a great guy to talk to. very knowledgable. DOO actually used his web site in some proportion with regards to the simmons ski lawsuit. Get the Advantage triple points.

they were like $80US + shipping. all in they where cheaper than buying DOO oem carbides and in my opinion they are fantastic. (I actually haven't heard of anyone that didn't like them)

A cheaper, and less aggressive alternative would be a set of Doo Flex skis. These are the all plastic sin.gle wear bar skis on the older ZX chassis. They look good, are light, and I always thought they worked very good. Light steering effort and they floatgood too.
