I have a 48/34 helix staring at me and I have a 48/36 in my clutch.
What is the difference?
What should happen if I swap them?
Thanks.

I forgot one thing.
srxmoose I know your answer so don't bother.

Geez, if I have this right, the lower finish angle (34) will carry higher rpm.

I agree with michahicks, it will cause a slight over-rev on top end.

Do we have an estimate of how much higher the revs will be?
Thanks for the answers.
The reason why I ask is that I damaged my 48/36 when I forced it on last week.
The pin actually split the helix. I reshaped it but I know it's life is shortened.
Possibly the 34 with a stiffer primary spring?
Ha, next year. Not enough season left to get into that with all the testing.

Is your 36 an R-12? If so they aren't hard to buy used at all. To use the 34 (R-8?) you would need a lighter spring on either side, or heavier weights. Something to slow the motor down.

I went the wrong way.

I don't know if it's an r12 or not. Likely not it doesn't say so on it. Bought it on ebay. I thought r12 was 50/36.
Bought the 48/34 on ebay too. It says r34 I think but it's not with me right now.

I have heavier weights.
I might give it a try but I leave for Ausrtralia tomorrow so it will wait until I get back.
Not that exciting...it's a work trip.

Polaris helix's are identified way down deep in the webing on the side that would face the driveshaft bearing when installed. Not very easy to see.

It's not a polaris it's an aftermarket.
It is stamped 48/36 and I believe is teflon coated.
Feels lighter too.
It also doesn't have the 1 and 4 marked by the holes tghat's why I counted to hole #2 from the wrong end or should I say guessed wrong.
