I have a 1980 440 John deere Trailfire. The Rope broke on the recoil and when I took the recoil apart there were two real small fine springs that fell out I cannot figure out were they are suppose to go. Can anyone help ? Is there a web site I can go to and get a detailed diagram?

Maybe post some pics? I don't think people are ignoring this post, but it's hard to describe in words how to put a recoil back together. (putting them back together can be a p.i.t.a. as well, but explaining how to do it is even harder.)

I'm guessing that the 'fine' springs you speak of are the ones that keep the 'clicker' retracted back into the 'spinning thingey'. You need to put the springs in so the 'clicker' stays retracted until you pull on the rope. Maybe this will help, if not, post some pictures and you might get more responses.
