unisoldier 02-24-2005, 10:17 PM Hi.
So here´s my plans anyway.
First of all Im gonna sled myself in shape during the weekend. Then Im working the night between Sunday and Monday. Leaving Tuesday evening, go get to Stockholm, Sweden - some 10 hours by train. After a few hours of waiting, Im catching a plane to Frankfurt in western Germany, flown by Lufthansa. In Frankfurt Im probably gonna be a little bit stressed up because I only have 1,5 hour to change to Air Canada in the afternoon. I should then land at LB.Pearson in Toronto at 20.00. Then Im getting to Toronto to make downtown a little unsafe for a while, waiting for the bus to take me to Kirkland Lake. Should be arriving there at Thursday morning, ready to rock well before lunch. There I´ll catch up with the guys riding from New Liskeard, and hopefully be drinking beer with ya all in the evening at the Lillebells. C ya later!
permafrost 02-24-2005, 10:47 PM Unisoldier, your are a soldier. So glad you are coming :) Safe journey from LAdyK and I . first round is on us
Permafrost & LadyK
revrnd 02-25-2005, 08:28 PM I'm heading out tomorrow before 7. Meeting up w/ brother and sister in law in Beaverton. Should pull into New Liskeard mid afternoon. Some guys we know from work are getting back to New Liskeard after a week in Quebec. Hope to have a couple of cold ones w/ them & hear their war stories :D . They were planning on going as far north as Mattagami PQ. That's east of Abitibi.
If I can, I'll try to get word to someone what the conditions are like up to Earlton. We're heading west to Gowganda, so I won't be able to report on TOP A north of there. Mind you the forecast looks good for snow.
Mike, take A108 from KL north to TOP A. I took it for the 1st time last year & thought it was a nicer trail that running west to TOP A. We had to contend w/ logging on it last year too :(.
If you have time (5 or 10 minutes from the bulk fuel dealer), shoot over to the Galaxy Motel in Val Gagne. It's across from the Ford dealer. The A101 trail goes right past the snowmobile tree. Back on TOP A heading towards Iroquois Falls you'll see the propane phone.
Everyone that's heading up, have a safe drive & see you Thursday or Friday.
sawman 02-26-2005, 11:55 AM Packed ready to go! Leaving in the morning. :D

There is logging for a good section of A108. The road is coarse gravel or stone and not too nice to ride on. I think we should probably stick with the A trail for this reason.

What about the A110Q up to Bourkes? Any logging there?
MikeD 02-26-2005, 04:36 PM We're good guys ..... not to worry. We have a local (Rottie) who is going to get us from NL up to KL the best way.

A110Q goes east and west between the A trail and the Quebec border.

Yes it seams that way. What I though was that if there logging at A108 there might be an better idea to use the A110Q from KL to the Atrail. Am I right or am I right? :)

Since you're picking up your sled in KL, A110Q is an option to get from town to Top A.
i will be leaving wensday morning to head up to NL
Im still debating on weather i will bring my MX or modular helmet :bash:
Rottie 02-27-2005, 08:48 PM When you guys arrive I will show you several trail options and you can decide depending on timeframe. I know where the logging is being done and avoiding it is not a problem.
we will be saddle bagging from NL to cochrane, i already have to carry all my stuff for 5 days, dont have much room left for a spare helmet :(

With temps ranging from -5 to -24, I'd be tempted to go modular. The trails a pretty quick too ... think wind chill.
Rottie 02-28-2005, 10:00 AM Thursday morning is to be -25 to head north..think warm..

Hi there, the weather in Cochrane is not bad, a little cold with the wind chill feeling like -25, but sunny! We had about 1-3 inches this morning. Sawman, tempest, James and Simon are out sledding for the day. Kim, hubby and other will be here around 6:00 pm tonight. It will be great meeting all of you. See you's when you get to Cochrane

dpaige 03-04-2005, 10:11 AM STOP HUMPING MY BEAUTIFUL SLED YOU DIRTY FRENCHMAN!
Rottie 03-04-2005, 10:23 AM Your sled is in one piece and wed night dan and I pulled it into my garage and wiped a bit of dirt off of it for ya..hope it wasnt holding anything together
dan lost a belt thurs morning 1/2 hour into the ride but caught it in time before it grenaded..no damage just some cold hands.
dpaige 03-04-2005, 10:43 AM Nice.
unfortunately, that was load bearing dirt, the thing's gonna fall apart now.
As you can probably tell by looking at the sled, its ridden by an 85 year old grandmother who never goes over 5000 rpm and NEVER, EVER gets the skis or the track off the ground.
The dent in the belly pan and the running board kink came like that from the factory and ABSOLUTLEY NOT caused by coming up short on a 60ft jump.
Did he find the new belt inside??
and how is it in the powder?? I haven't been in anything that deep yet, only about 2-3 feet at the most so far.
Does the frenchman have a silly grin on his face??
Rottie 03-04-2005, 10:48 AM He had her fixed up before mike and I realized the others were not behind us. We left a little dirt on it..doesnt like to come real clean in -20. The hook up is nice but the real play time will be when they hit frazerdale today. I am hoping to trailer up and meet with them tomorrow but not sure yet. And yes he had quite a grin on.
Rottie 03-04-2005, 12:30 PM For all you guys and gals that are wondering what's up I am happy to report that MikeD. DanR, OntRider, Catdoo and Unisoldier met up with perm, ladyk, jtkennedy and others in ramore yesterday afternoon. We had a good ride up (except for the guide screwing up..that would be me ) and only one blown belt. If any of you ever get a chance to ride with danr, miked, ontrider or catdoo dont pass it up. They are great people I hope to ride with them again. Only downside was having to ride 2+ hours home by myself. :(
I am hoping to trailer up sat morning and meet up again for some more seat time.
On a less happy note I didnt get many details but LadyK and Perm and an accident with the truck/trailer/sled. I dont know exactly what happened but both are ok and are still riding so you can ask them when they get back.

I think anyone attending the trip is going to be out riding, not surfing the internet.
No one said a word about last years trip until the sunday night we returned.
There are at lease 2 threads about the trip right now.

LOL. By the way, how many members ended up attending?
Thumbdoctor 03-05-2005, 04:56 PM Well I'm back from Cochrane and there are some stories to tell about this week. I'll let Perm and Lady K tell their version(s) as I think they have had way too much fun getting to Cochrane. I arrived Tuesday afternoon and met up with Me&mymxz583, Sawman & Tempest. We tore up a few trails from Cochrane to Iroquois Falls and the trails were EXCELLENT!!!. That evening Jeff & Kim showed up at about midnight and we all told lies and had a little alternative intellegence to assist our pains & toils. We were just about to turn in when jtKennedy9 showed up after a 20 odd hour marathon drive from the Indy, so we commenced partying again. Wednesday was general replace, rebuild & repair ("CCR" chop cut rebuild) day as Team Renegade will explain on Sunday (or Monday). We couldn't get James' Mxz going on Wednesday and thought it was due to the extreme cold the night before (-30), so after some severe recoil start aerobics we dragged me&mymxz583's sled into Lillibelle Resort's wood stove heated garage anticipating wrenching on it into the wee hours. We checked the basics (fuel, spark & compression) all good. Tried pulling one last volley before engine surgery and the sled gave one almighty backfire which spat out a big chunk of ice out of the exhaust. After that she started and ran fine again. While we were blasting around Tuesday on the home stretch James did a little "off trail excursion" that must have filled his muffler with powder then froze. Since we had his sled in a relatively warm garage we did some upgrades for his trouble and sent him away smiling. Thursday we were all ready to head out bright & early (10:30 AM by my count) to meet DanR, MikeD and Unisoldier. All in company were Team Renegade (LadyK, Perm & CrazyB), Me&mymxz583, jtkennedy9 & me (thumbdoctor). We got about 10 kilometers into our ride with me following CrazyB and being the recipient of a hailstorm behind that "Big Paddle" when my PTO bearing expired. I guess when you spin the mill 9200 rpm too long somethings gotta go. Perm followed me back to the resort. At this time I think a great thank you needs to go out to Rod & Kim at the resort and to dahmer for getting all the parts and connections to keep everyone on the trail.
Gotta go now!!
More notes and photos to follow later,
C Ya
me&mymxz 03-05-2005, 10:35 PM Well I am back now with a big thanks to all who attended and our hosts Rod and Kim. Special thanks to Thumb Dr, Sawman and Tempest for putting up with my old worn out equipment. Yes T. Dr my chain flew south before I had a chance to make it to the Canyon under my own steam. I got there thanks to a Turbo cat and back on, "my new sled", Tempests GTX 500ss. Sawman and Tempest can fly and I had a great time chasing them as they rode 2up at 60 back to Lillibelle. With a little flapping of Tempests wings they left the ground a few times on the way down. Got to go to the canyon twice in one day, the secongd was to pick up the sled with the trailer.
Dalmer offered to get my sled back up and running with his connections for this mornings ride but I figured I had better getmy van limped home before it expired (wheel bearing or u joint that would have woken up the neighbourhood if I had arrived any later)
Great time with lots of $$ raised for Autism (sp) and lots of great prizes for those in attendance. I am sure any donations would be appreciated still.
T Dr. a truck had to be rented to deliver al your winnings, they should be there soon. You had better buy some lottery tickets LOL
Thanks to all the sponsors for your generosity
Picts and more stories ot come

Rottie 03-06-2005, 08:38 AM Back again! I made it to cochrane around 8:15am just as miked was leaving to meet the others for their ride so I hooked up with danr, perm, fraz and the others for a tower line run. The snow was around waist deep +/- and was very sugar like and was the first time i really had to try out the 1.5" track and I'm quite happy with it. Anyway cory Im not sure how many in total were there but there was 11-12 in our group yesterday morning. The trail system in cochrane is very wide..very smooth and very fast (i was the slowest guy..sorry bout that!!) CrazyB's handle is justified..he's a nutbar!! Fraz isn't exactly a spring chicken but he can ride in the deep stuff pretty good and isn't afraid to get in there and mix it up. Dahmer's a powder lunatic too and man does the warrior sound nice and handle's off trail pretty decent. I will post a couple of pics this morning and the rest when I get home tonight from the Kirkland Lake snowcross races..Steve
Rottie 03-06-2005, 08:40 AM Bet you cant guess who's sled this is..
Rottie 03-06-2005, 08:42 AM Check out JTKennedy workin his short track!!

Wolfman 03-06-2005, 12:03 PM Great pics. On one hand, I wish I could have made it. On the other, I've been bad sick the last few days, so I would have ended up only being a hotel room occupant this time around, which would have ruined the trip for me anyway. :(

revrnd 03-06-2005, 08:47 PM We rolled into Lillabelle Thursday afternoon before the gang rolled in from New Liskeard. 5 days of riding caught up to me so I crashed around 9:30 & missed the party.
Friday we headed north & snacked just past the dam. Saw a guy bury a Fusion in the Canyon. Got it out, but almost rolled it @ the top.
Left Lillabelle Saturday morning for New Liskeard. Good day for riding. All told we did 1161 miles (1872 kms) in 7 days.

JRBBQ 03-07-2005, 03:58 PM Snowmobile world 2005 cochrane ride
Day 1 Thursday
Went over to lillibelle lake to meet every one. Met thumbdoctor and leezer and me and my mxz and perm and lady k. thumbdoctor was working his magic on lady k’s and leezer’s sleds because the trailer came off the truck and into the gully on the highway. Not much damage considering. I went to diamond back performance with perm to straighten a radius bar off lady k’sled (www.diamondbackperformance.com). Then we went to my house and got a windshield and a headlight thong for lady k’s sled. I brought thumdoctor some more tools to work with also. Went back after work and had a couple beer with everyone, then called it a night.
Day 2 Friday
Went to the lodge in the morning to see how all the damage was coming and I met perm and lady and leezer on the road with the trucks. Perm moved over a little to much and got sucked into the shoulder. He was returning the uhaul trailer he had. We had to unhook the uhaul and hook it on my truck to get it out of the way then I pulled him out. The little short box 318 pulled out the big Cummins. Wish I had my camera for that. Went to work then out to the lodge for a couple more beer and to see who was comimg with us on Saturday.
Day 3 Saturday
George and I met fraz and crazy b and perm and rottie and danr and jt at tim hortons and no lady k. perm said she was going to stay in because she thought I was going to bring them on to hard of a ride. So we called the lodge and couldn’t get through. So we went back out and got her. Betcha she’s happy she came now. Then we headed out. My cottage at silver queen lake was the first pit stop then to the river to george guppy’s camp for pit stop 2. we then ran the river almost to island falls. Took a back trail from a camp to the power line and played in there for awhile. Nice spot we all had a little fun. Then we took the railway tracks to the island falls road and rottie treated the gang to some ration pack food while Jason and I looked for al. lost a buddy. We couldn’t find him. He took a side trail and got stuck. He got out and made it back to the group. I was getting worried. Then off to some more back trails and lakes and we ended up at the fraserdale road and the local smoothrock feeder trail and took the ofsc trail into smoothrock for some gas. Once we gassed up we headed for cochrane to go to JR’s for supper. (NO RIBS). So we had some appy’s and a beer and ordered take out from jr’s for later. Went back to the lodge and waited for our food parked the sleds and ate and got a little tippy. Drank in lady k and perm’s room all night and then crazy b and jt and chris and I went to the local dance bar and got tippyer. Very good 3 days . and you guys all know where to find me if you are ever in cochrane again. I’m sure I can brainstorm another adventure, this time we will bring more gas . thanks everyone for the fun day.

jtkennedy9 03-07-2005, 05:17 PM Got ya pinned. Will get some pics up soon. Just playing catch up today. Great meeting you Fraz!
OntRider 03-07-2005, 07:02 PM Wow, there's just so much to say about the ride!
To sum it up: a good time was had by all :)
It was great meeting all of you! Hopefully we can have an informal SW get-together in Cochrane and area sometime again soon. The way the snow was coming down in New Liskeard this morning, it might be sooner than we think :)
I've got a million pics of our ride from NL to Cochrane, to the canyon on Friday, and Smooth Rock, Timmins, etc. on Saturday. I'll go through them and post soon.
Thanks again to everybody, especially MikeD who was our tour guide for the entire time. And to Rottie for the excellent hospitality and the kahunas for inviting 4 forum strangers to your place for dinner on Wednesday night.
PS: time to update the season mileage total on the forum. 1500km in 4 days. Not too shabby!
Oh, and invest some money in the gas companies! They're going to have record profits this quarter after MikeD's week :lmao: Sorry about the lousy gas mileage, Mike. I'm sure you'll get the problem fixed pronto!

permafrost 03-08-2005, 11:11 AM Well , were do I even start :dazed: . Without the help of so many this trip, would of never been possible for us. The list is long and distinguished. It is in Chronological order .
- Crazy B for lending us his trailer
- Bedards Towing in South River for towing us repeatedly and recovering Crazy B's
trailer
- Professional tire in North bay for being the only guys in the entire region that had snow tire that would fit our truck
- dahmer for going out of his way countless times to help us
- Thumbdoctor and Me&MyMxz583 for wrenching into the wee hours of the night
- Lillabelle Lodge for letting us turn their garage into non stop wrench fest and for putting up with us in general
- JtKennedy for making the shirts and for driving so far to come to the ride
If I have forgotten anyone sorry, the story is just beginning and I will update later today when we return home. We had a chance to check out the polar bears before we left and it was well worth it. Here are a couple pics for now.

permafrost 03-08-2005, 03:58 PM Here is a pic of CrazyB dooing what he does best>>Story telling. B is half way through a bottle of big mouth and Leezer carefully listens and learns what not to doo. :D
MikeD 03-08-2005, 03:59 PM Now this is just retarded ........ all the beautiful scenery around and look what we use as our photographic back ground ...... this is the parking lot at Tim Horton's in Kirkland Lake. Coffee is always hot eh?? Sure, everything in the store is hot (just glowing) , trying to relax outside and bbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ...... OK lets' park here!!
Uni had ridden a whole 3.5 or 4 minutes at this point then we stopped for about 45 minutes for lunch (the rest of us hadn't eaten yet) .... he must have though to himself .."Oh yes, ride 3 miles and stop for one half of one hour, the people from the country are not fast, at this rate we will travel for 1.65 months before arriving at Cochrane ......... which way to Quebec? I hear it's nice there"
MikeD 03-08-2005, 04:06 PM When Franks T660 (sawman) sled broke down, James (meandmymxz583) offered to tow him. In typical SW fashion, a quorum was formed and the decision was made to protect the trade in values of the machines by using James' sled (backwards) to tow Franks sled (backwards) and save recorded mileage.
Here's a pic of James walking (backwards) to the sleds to untie the ropes.
permafrost 03-08-2005, 04:06 PM Here is a couple more pics taken on our first day of riding when the wrenching was done.
The second pic is of ME&MYmxz583, JTKennedy and LadyK, the first pic is at a rest stop on route to Ramora to meet Mike D and the gang heading north. The Polaris looks misplaced in a sea of yellow :D
MikeD 03-08-2005, 04:09 PM ..... during the afformentioned meeting ... something very important (apparently) happened just to the left of this picture.
MikeD 03-08-2005, 04:16 PM Mike thought his farts were much quieter. The tell tale sound of wind on vinyl not only interupted the meeting, it left Mike alone and somewhat embarrassed.
MikeD 03-08-2005, 04:18 PM If you look very carefully (beside the person in the orange jacket) you can see Herve Villachez still wait for "da plane!!"
MikeD 03-08-2005, 04:24 PM During our Smooth Rock, Timmins, Cochrane loop tour, I asked the group a trick question (you know me, always kiddin' around)
"Which way is the wind coming from" I said, they all whipped there gloves off and did the suck thumb/check for wind test. Except for Uni, who as you can see, left his glove on and failed the test.
I just looked at which way the snow was blowing, laughed and left.

unisoldier 03-10-2005, 12:12 PM Hey all, just came back!
For thoose of u that didnt know, I kind of almost reached Speedys the other day. Couple of miles before KL the display started to shut down when driving slower than 30 or so, so I thought - Im about smoked. I found the road between Swastika and KL and took that one all the way down in order to save me some time. Downtown - about 4 blocks from Speedys - the sparkplugs sucked out the last drop of power out of the battery. Nick came and loaded the battery, and it started fine after that - so I guess it was the alternator after all.
Before that I had a great last day of ride. Took the Quebecktrail towards Abitibi lake, and then headed the local trail L61 towards Irquióis falls. Great trail - hadnt been any traffic there for quite some while so there was about 6" untouched powder on it - really a blast.
Coming up with pictures soon. Cya

Are you getting the broken Apple Quicktime logo? If so, right click on the video link, then choose Save Target As and save the file to your hard drive. Then try viewing it by opening it with Window Media Player. Version 9 will play it will no problems but some systems erroneously try to open it with Quicktime.
