During the 3000 km service of my 03 Rx-1 I had the dealership put a new belt on it. They say they shimmed it to get better wear ot of it & ever since there is a squeal or whining noise that that you can hear when the sled sits and idles after it is warmed up from a good ride (it was not there before the dealer serviced & was there within 30 km of the servicing). If you start it up & have not driven yet you do not hear the noise. I am not mechanical & am not sure what the shims are or what they do?
The mechanic at the dealersip said something about a waterpump. makes no sense to me as the sled has only 9000 km or 5400 miles on it & is regularly serviced. What should I look for or do about it? I am a little nervous after my 2 recent breakdowns & want to be sure everything is in order so that I can enjoy my toy again.
Also since I have now decided to keep the sled for one more year feedback on clutch kits would be nice as well. Which do you recommend & what type of change in both performance & gas mileage should I expect.

By shimming the secondary a little more pressure is being applied to the belt. As the belt wears a little the noise should stop. As far as clutch kits go I strongly recommend Heavy Hitters. Stock clutching is very mild and the HH's will really wake up the beast. Compared to a stock clutched RX-1, you will easily get the jump by several sled lenghts. No improvement on top end but you get there much quicker.

Hey! Go through the posts on this over the last few weeks! Its the same problem. My srx has it there is another guy with a viper and a brand new vector. It is a problem with yamaha and the posts will tell you your solution!! (Its the shims) you just need to take them out and you will be fine. If you leave it like this you will eventually get rid of the squeel, however you will wear the belt down 5 times as fast. I went through 3 last season alone.
