Yes.
What do you need to know (I used all A/C parts and a 1 1/4" full block track)

You have just a putting a 136po rail, 136po track, extention tunnel and putting a extention of pipe for rear cooling

where did you find the skid of the 03 zl. did you just buy it new? how much did the whole thing cost you...is it possible to go bigger than 136?

It's possible to go as big as you like.
One of my best friends had the very sled you're talking about. A 96 ZRT 600 with a 136x1.25" track. It was pretty good in the snow, and a good climber. He sold the sled to a guy that immediatly converted it back to a 121". Both of them much prefered it in it's shorter form. My friends comment after trying the shortened sled was "it actually handles now".
Bottom line. It's a big heavy brute of a sled that will never be a great powder machine. It certainly has power, and will spin that track fast enough that it will get you around in the snow, just not anywhere that requires alot of finesse.
It is however a fairly good trail sled. A better trail sled in it's current form then it will ever be a powder sled with a long track. I'd play to the machines strengths and not try and make it something it doesn't want to be. There are better choices out there for playing in the snow.
If, however, you absolutely love the ZRT, but much have more flotation, then yes, it can be converted fairly easily.

It made a good sled much better.
I went to 136". I had a buddy parting out a powder extreme and used all his cat parts. I put the longer rails on my skid (this kept the Fox shocks, which I re-built at the same time). The tunnel extension and longer cooler tubes etc. were all easy to switch over. I geared down one or two teeth on the top sprocket (I can't remember exactly....doh!). The factory extension has a plastic shroud that looks pretty nice. My sled already had sno-pro (heavy)rear springs, which I think you will need if you do this conversion.
I put 3500 miles on this sled in its 'streched' configuration, and I do about 1/2 my riding on groomed trails and the rest could be just about anywhere.
On the trail, the ride was MUCH better. Handling was not affected very much at all. I did quite a bit of riding with a buddy who had a 02 zrt6 and the difference in handling when going from my sled to his was MORE than made up for by the better ride.
Off the trail, the sled floated MUCH better. It doesn't compare to a sled with a 2" track but it was A LOT more fun in deep snow (if I still had it, I would be looking for some old style Cat mountain skis ...... NOT the parrabolics).
The results of this conversion were excellent. If you want to make your sled go better off the trail, ride better and still handle well -- go for it. This was my first 136" sled and I will never have one any shorter.
BTW, even after adding the 136" track, I could still beat my buddy with the 02 zrt6 accross the lake. (the 95's and 96's were the fastest 6's).[attachmentid=20068]

do you know what it would be like throwing a 141in on it? what would be some of the down sides? handling? would it matter the rails i used...could i use any 136". Lets say I wanted to get a whole new skid, would i still need sno-pro heavy rear springs. Is their any advantages to getting a whole new skid compared to just new rails?

do you know what it would be like throwing a 141in on it?* what would be some of the down sides? handling?* VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE. THIS ONLY MAKES THE TRACK LENGTH 2 1/2" LONGER would it matter the rails i used...could i use any 136".* I SEE YOU'RE IN FERNIE. IF YOU HAVE A GOOD DEAL ON A 141"X1.5" TRACK, USE THE 136" RAILS AND RELOCATE THE SKID REARWARD....... LESS TRENCHING.* Lets say I wanted to get a whole new skid, would i still need sno-pro heavy rear springs.HOW HEAVY ARE YOU? LONGER SKID = MORE LEVERAGE.....AND I'M 240 to START WITH. * Is their any advantages to getting a whole new skid compared to just new rails?THE ONLY REASON TO GET A WHOLE NEW SKID IS TO GET A NEWER CAT ONE WITH MORE TRAVEL. STICK WITH CAT SKIDS....IMO THEY ARE THE BEST. PERIOD.
EVEN IF YOU DON'T STRETCH THE SLED, GET SOME MOUNTAIN SKIS..... especially in Fernie, and get the 1.5 inch track, in whatever length you decide.... it will just fit.

does it matter which year the skid/rails come from or is it pretty universal fitting. Would it be better to try to find newer rails or skid or does it not make a big difference?
