Hate to admit it, but it's over. Can hear the overly endowed lady singing (to be politically correct) so my thoughts turn to improvements to my sled. Here's my list ( if I end up keeping it, re:wife )

1) work on fuel economy, carb settings/jetting/adjustments

2) upgrade rear suspension shock ( the best I can get )

3) polish tunnel with 'Mothers' as I have seen done so many times on this site.

4) plan for more riding next year ( attend fall show and inquire like crazy!)

How 'bout you guys/gals, did I miss anything???? Your ideas??

WOW, where do I begin!

With this year being the first i did any damge to my sled, fixing gthat would be the first thing, the rest is yearly mods to keep the poos and doos eating my dust. Cat seems to always keep up

-Weld crack in aluminum running board
-Gusset my hood where it cracked on one side, but gusset it on the other side for the hell of it!
-Put 1.325"woodys in my ripsaw
-Replace plugs
-Buy new BOSS seat and remove all that old 2-up stuff
-Buy new windsheild screws, as i broke mine off
-Put my Shapers back on
-Bar ends
-New handlebar pad
-New fan belt or new fan bearing, what ever is squeaking
-Custom rear light bracket
-Clean and polish everything like I normally do
-Grease everything with nipples
-Remove footrests and mirrors

Theres prolly more but thats it for now, just waiting to start this fall!

Well, at only 159 miles this season, and $1400.00 in "maintenance" last fall, I am hoping only the usual stuff as Paul said. I put the new track, studs, idlers, slides, drive shaft and wheels, and general tune-up / alignment into her last fall. I figure I'll be all ready for snow by April 4th, and waiting patiently until it actually comes along. :whistling:

once you can run up against that pretty little girl on the black 2003 REV there are still others out there that might be faster yet. :whistling:
give her the clutch since she is already a couple lengths ahead of you and you will make more money betting on the sidelines while she races.

lets see, mmmmmmmm. flip down dvd player, expresso machine, 10 disc cd player with subwoofer, and spinner idler wheels. and thats a mountain sled!!

But if I don't get the money for all that,
probably just a lower windshield, spare gas tank (permafrost), new hyfaxes, and a left hand throttle. dam, its probably cheaper to get the expresso machine!!

Well... I love my Formula, but my idea of an upgrade is to get an 05 Rev Adrenaline 500ss, You all know that already so I think at this point that's going to be upgraded enough for me. :D Going from a 97 to an 05 will be real nice ! Don't get me wrong, my formula was good to me and I will miss her, but my REV is calling me already.

New track. 1.25 or 1.50 " agressor track.
new seat
maybe install sno pro bars
change steering knuckles under the engine.
While engine is out, clean entire belly pan.
powdercoat rails, A-arms, and other various parts.

With 6150 miles on my MXZ, this year I'm doing a lot of upgrades

The mounting holes for the front shock and spring on the rear suspention is "egged" so i have to replace the runners.

Replace rear springs (they are getting strained)

Re-build all 4 shocks

If I don't get a new sled (new for me) I may look for a blown up 600 or 700 to re-build and drop in mine, or a totaled ZX with a good motor

Then all the regular stuff, greese the fittings, new carbides, sliders, fog the engine, drain the fuel, clean the carbs, and store with the rear up, and the skis dangling.

It's a new machine for me (or at least new-to-me) next season. I'm keeping the SRX as a spare, I'm not sure I can part ways with it quite yet.... Still can't figure out what to buy, or how the heck I am going to tow them around. I suppose I've got a few months to ponder these big life-changing decisions. :D

New top end, and crank seals should do the motor after 7000 miles.
Rebuild primary and all new drivetrain bearings.
Usually just buy a new sled instead of rebuilding but the 8-10,000 dollar price tag nowdays just dont cut it anymore.
Now if gas doesn't hit $3.00 a gal. I might be able to ride it next year!?

I plan on adding a security system that has been described in here by Snoride and mode my headlights. Other than that no changes.

Got a few projects for mine. Gonna install a 440 seat on my REV. Taller riser as well. Gotta give my girlish figure more room on my sled ya know. Rebuild time again for the 600H.O.. Just shy of 1900 miles on this rebuild. Getting slow again. Real slow.

2) upgrade rear suspension shock ( the best money can buy )

3) polish tunnel with 'Mothers' as I have seen done so many times on this site. ($12)

4)New top end, and crank seals ($400)

I think prices are BANG on!

Pretty much nothing but summer maintance for us. We bought three almost new sleds this year, a 700RMK, 800RMK, and 900 Cat and even after this season's ride....none have over 1,000 miles yet.

I plan on getting a few last rides before summer, here out west if we are lucky we can ride into early june! w00t I just got my 800RMK so I plan on putting a few more miles on it with the rest of this season and plan on putting lots of miles on it for next season. I don't think it needs any work, it's only got 590 miles.

The Rev is getting all the 440 frame braces that an "X" package should come standard with (don't get me started) :bash: , a Boss hi-riser and either custom mountain/altitude head and chrome rings OR the whole 830 shebang job complete with porting and Decker twin pipes from RKTek - depending on how my annual review goes with my boss on Monday!

Have Fun,

No. But I spin them all every year by hand to check for noise and/or binding, and I end up replacing a few every time. I think that's what he meant. Incidentally, you can buy NTNs by the dozen off Ebay and save a TON of cash, plus always have a few spares on hand.

Wash, wax, replace all driveline bearings, and try to fit a larger lugged
track in my 81 Scorpion Sidewinder, It's all power and no traction in wet or powder snow. If I make enough selling my old house, maybe will get that 2006 Crossfire in the showroom, Going to look at it in a few hours.

New front bumper and seat cover for me.... oh, and a pair of precisions too! If anyone knows of the whereabouts of a YELLOW CK3 front bumper, be sure to let me know. All the dealers I called said they've been discontinued, .... and I don't want plain ol' black!

i replace them all. even the ones that do spin free after a few years have water in them so it's just a matter of time.

Do you replace them all every year Paul?? Kinda seems like overkill, although I guess you could say there's no substitute for preventative maintenance.

paul yarek
04-17-2005, 05:15 PM
every second year i replace the idler bearings.

don't be fooled by the ntn blue seal bearings. i have experimented using 3-4 brands at a time on the two sleds and then while replacing i take the seal out of the old bearing to see how much water got in the bearing. the blue seal seams to be the worst.

Hindsites 20/20 when you're broken down on the trail right ? I've never had a bearing leave me stranded on the trail because I change them all the time. That does not mean a new bearing couldn't fail but the risk is a lot less. Every year I change the bearings in the skid, the drive axle and the jack shaft. Simple maintenance that does a long long way.

I'm undecided at the time which way to go, i have a few options.
I picked up a 2002 MXZX 440 for the wife. That needs an oil injection set-up, D.E.S.S. Set it up for trail use with low compression heads, i plan to freshen up the engine as well over summer. Joe's clutch kit hopefully will fit in the budget plan. Then of course go through it top to bottom.

My 2001 MXZ 700 may get the 440 suspension and bar setup. Planning to swap out the secondary for a RER with one of Joe's kits. New rings on Cudneys pistons, probally time for a new chain and the basic maintenance from top to bottom.

Not really sure which way to go, i can't give her my sled because she likes the way you sit on the 440X chassis.

Any suggestions?

Being as my 800 RMK has about 2500 miles on it and the crank hasn't broken yet, I'm sending the crank off for upgraded PTO bearings; also will put in the stiffening plate to see if I can keep from becoming one of the Poo 800 statistics. 550 AC Prowler- changing the jackshaft and brake rotor, jackshaft bearings, driveline bearings. Everything else is good to go with a little cleaning and a gob of grease!

I plan on putting on rail extensions to go to a 136" track and getting different shocks for the rear end.I got a Fox Zero X shock for the center all ready. Also need to get front shocks rebuilt and revalved.

TallCool1
04-21-2005, 06:57 PM
The normal maintenance items on both sleds. Then on the Triple Touring I plan on removing all the 2-up gear and replacing with a solo seat. Then I will have a 136" ZRT600 basically, and it should be easier for the wife to ride, since it is the one she rides when she goes.

Nothing major for the ZR, but I am going to rebuild/upgrade the shocks so I don't bottom out on the rear. Will also create a video cam setup to capture all those special moments :D Also want to do some type of coating on the pipes. I also purchased 2 power supplies for my Collett comunicators that run off the sled's power, so I don't have to mess with their battery packs. I bought one for each sled in Feb, but did not get them installed before the last trip. It will be nice to not have to rely on the battery packs. That should be it 'til I find something else to spend money on. :hallo1:

I was surprised went I started summerizing. Checked the Max recorded speed and RPM on the "Big Pig" finally broke 100 MPH with 7600 RPM last time out. I had added some weight to the Heel Kickers since the new motor mount and torque stop was installed. Just received my new gears so I'll add those and continue to tune the rear suspension. Just changed the E-clip position on the Pro-X to see if that clears up the low/midrange "gurgle" If it does I might try the original Fusion gears in the Pro-x to see if I can improve it's top end.
