1.Hey guys I'm looking for a summer project to rebuild and do up a little.just want to know how the 1998-2001 machz ( withthe 800 triple) rides and handles compared to say a 2000-1 700 mxz?
2.From your experience which of these machines would be the best to modify, or in other words a bit cheaper because it might be a better or superior machine from the start?
3 I always here how well the zr 900 handles, is this comparable to these other machines?
4. which of these is a faster machine from factory?
Any personal experience and help would be appreciated!

A Twin will be cheaper to mod as it has one less hole to deal with. AS for which one to build up , that is personal choice and might depend on the deals you find. The mxz 700 motor is solid in stock form. I would stretch it too 136 , and clutch it. My 3 cents

I'd have to say go with the ZR 9. Proven chassis that handles way way better than any older Mach ever could and that engine has great potential.

Yo Snowrash,
1.) I had a couple Mach Z's. Great motors, But NO :( handling.
My son rides a "00 MXZ7 Good motor, Good :D handling, the MXZ will loose any Mach in tight/ twisties, or the Whoops.
2.) Modify?? For what kind of use? TRAIL or LAKE?????
3.) ZR's do handle. (That's why this long time DOO lover jumped brand. There's a VERY GOOD reason everybody is now following ARCTIC CAT, and making A-Arm front ends!) NO, it does NOT compare to these other machines, it is by far SUPERIOR in MOTOR and Handling!
It has the GRUNT/POWER of the Mach's motor, and better handling than the MXZ!
4.) From the Factory? I don't think anyone is running a FACTORY set up!
Fast as in LAKE (TOP END), my $ would be on the Mach Z with a good SET-UP.
GOTTA LOV THEM TRIPPLES FOR ALLOUT SPEED,
LIFE BEGINS AT 120MPH++++++++++++=====----------.........!
SEE YA on the otherside, I'll be wait'n for ya,

Thanks for the info so far guys. The triple is definitely a great motor ( I have one, but in a gt) , and you affirmed my suspiscion on the poorer handling of the mach, i did not know a zr would handle like or better than a mxz, and with that kind of power, it must be a great all around machine! i not really looking to do up for ultimate lake performance or even railcar handling, more just to try a bit of engine refreshing and some miner mods like clutching maybe a bit of port work, reeds and fine carb tuning, and some miner suspension work.
Maybe i just just sell my gt and buy an newer zr! these machines are so refined right now I doubt theres a better machine out there at this moment from what i have heard and read
