: Turning To You Guys For Help...
Good2Go 04-26-2005, 04:33 PM OK, heres my situation. I'm 16, looking for a vehicle. Rite now, i have a car that we've had in the family. Its a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird Le, 2-door, 187,000kms, 3.1 v-6, fully loaded, sunroof, great shape.
Now, i was looking at a 1993 Mazda B2200 truck the other nite that i am very interested in. I took it for a drive and it runs great, nothing wrong with it. It has 214,000Kms, new timing belt, new clutch, new gas tank, new tires, new brakes. Its a 2.2L 4-cylinder matted to a 5-speed.
Truck has no rust, has a cap, boxliner, trailor hitch. He is asking a VERY good price, and all it needs to certify is a windshield.
I can only keep one or the other. Basically i need something cheap to get to school and work and back, thats why i was more interested in the truck, and the fact that i can have some fun with rear wheel drive and standard,
but do i give up the sleek sporty look and high performance of the sunbird?? which i have put lots of work and new parts into and runs like a champ??
what would you do guys??!! And plus i think the truck would come in handy for moving some stuff around..........
need opinions quick i have to make my mind up by tonite.........

REVS UP 04-26-2005, 04:49 PM Your 16, go for the car. If and when you buy a truck, go for full size. Sure you can move stuff with a truck, but do you want to be your buddies mover all the time? It sucks.
Car - you know it's history. Truck could be a lemon that only looks good now.
Car- less km, one year newer.
Car - parents can transfer to you therefore pay less tax.
Cars are better on gas
Truck-you already mentioned "having fun with it", stick with the car so you have less fun and reduce the risk of an accident.

Downriver Thunder 04-26-2005, 05:41 PM I have owned 2 small Rangers and I speak from experience, I will never own a small truck again. Too small inside and no power to tow any substantial weight. Some people like them, I myself do not.
yammyman 04-26-2005, 05:44 PM I would go with the truck, i think it would be better on gas then then sunbird. My dad had one and i loved it. plus if its cheap and no rust, better yet! and with a truck you can haul your sled around and other stuff and if you end up keping it theres alot of stuff you can do to it to make it look nice :D
labudda 04-26-2005, 06:23 PM stick with the car, you will be unhappy with the truck in a year and it will have 0 resale
paul yarek 04-26-2005, 07:27 PM keep the car if you have looked after it and it must have been looked after with that many K's on it. the truck you don't know the past it has had and it is a 4 cylinder with big K's on it.
zr580cat 04-26-2005, 08:55 PM I will never go without a truck again, but I owned a Nissan and didn't like how small it was. However, at 16, it would probably be fine. With a wife, kids, and dogs, the small truck doesn't work! Once you have a truck, you'll wonder how you made it this long without!
northpo 04-26-2005, 09:24 PM Not much fun to be had with a small 2wheel drive 4 cylinder truck from Japan. I'd keep the car. You know the history of it and know that it is reliable.

Ditto.
Lots of up-side to the car, and lots of questions (uncertainty) with the truck.
akrievins 04-27-2005, 09:22 AM Hey,
I own a 1992 Chevy Lumina Euro with the same 3.1L engine. It's a very stong engine and alot of people say it will last a long time if you maintain it. I can get over 700 kms on a tank if I really baby it on the highway. In the city it'll be maybe 500 kms.
Trucks are nice for towing things, but since it is a small truck with a small engine, you're just gonna run into problems. Any time you buy a used truck look to see if has been towing things. Who knows what the past owner has towed with that truck since it does have a hitch on it. I'd steer clear.
Out of your two options the car sounds like the best bet.
idooski 04-27-2005, 10:30 AM A family car that you know the history on and has earned your trust or a truck that you really know nothing about?
No question in my mind. Go with the car.

:withstupid:
I love my full size truck and I can't imagine ever going back to a small truck again especially not 4cyl, 2wd, stick, etc. That truck has got to be UGLY anyway. I would keep the car.
Good2Go 04-27-2005, 05:08 PM Made up my mind last nite, Sunbird stays  ....and yes this car has been very well looked after, and runs like a champ,
AK: Yeah i know as well these motors are good to a good 300,000KM if looked after properly. Hows the lumina treating you? we had a '92 with the 3.4 and it was a sexy/very fast car but that motor was a pain to work on........
anyways thanks for the opinons! thanks boys. :)
