: Tunnel Polishing
mbrigande 05-04-2005, 09:53 AM While browsing my local hardware store yesterday I decided to go look at products that shine aluminum. I found a product called Tarnite. It can be used on copper, brass, bronze, aluminum, pweter, chrome, and stainless steel. The product comes in a yellow can, red lettering, with a picture of an armored knight with a sword. Cost was approximately $4.00 USD for nine-ounces. It's made by the Water Master Company out of New Brunswick, New Jersey. Minimal effort and awesome shine on my tunnel. I'll try to upload a picture.
CORY9 05-05-2005, 06:56 PM Sounds good, I've always used Mothers, and lots of elbow grease!

JasonF 05-08-2005, 09:11 PM Get some Wizards, little pricey but works like a charm
snowmutt 05-22-2005, 07:34 AM I too have found a new polish, sofar i tryed it on my alum rims on the truck. ive always used mothers or never-dull, but i was running low and need to get more . I found it at murrys one day while i was browsing and picking up a few things . Its made by megiurs, since i use there other products and like them i thought of giving it a try . It cost the same as mothers and comes in a similar can . so far im happy with it
it seams to cut the rubbing time in half . i run my alum rims yr round so they get ugly come spring . sofar this yr ive spent some time on them in fact one whole day cleaning and a poilsh job (mothers) but when i was done the shine just didnt excite me it need more rubing (alot of hazing) this was back in march and i havent touch them since . Iwent out and gave a rim a quick hit w/ this new stuff the other day and i spent about 15 min on it . WOW it brought it back like new in half the time . this stuff has protective poymers in it to help seal against oxidation. due time will tell the story , but for now its my new polish .
kinda has a sweet smell to it too . also seams to take less to get the job done . ill load a pic of before and after later. now i have to get the other 3 done before it rains .
Octane 05-22-2005, 08:33 AM I use Eagle One Nevr Dull. My brother used it on his '03 Pro-X and now his tunnel looks almost like a mirror.
It didnt get the tunnel on my sled quite as shiny, but it stills look as lot better than it did with all of that oxidation on it.

puree 05-22-2005, 09:02 AM wonder what an sos pad would do?? I was never told to try it on my chrome rims on the car and gave it a shot the other day and my god did it make a differenece. They havent looked that good since they were brand new. I also used it on the backs of the mirrors and the front end to get all the bugs off, just used very little pressure and that little gem made a world of difference.

Snowmutt ( Rick ) swears by the ole SOS pads.. he is always asking me to stop at the store on my way home from work to get him a fresh box. He was out the other day using them on the aluminum on the trailer. That and then some Mothers and this is how it turned out.

:sarcasm: To bad she doent like getting her hands all blk :bash: :bash: , Thats ok as long as shes ready to ride :lmao: :lmao:
well here,s the stuff . All these looked like the one on the left. I poilished each one the same way&time, This is the result. The pic dos,nt show a huge differance but to the eye it really does i think .
snowmutt 05-22-2005, 02:11 PM Here,s one of my rims done . These been through 2 winters and on their 3rd summer .
Octane 05-22-2005, 03:01 PM Im lazy when it comes to wheels. I just spray them with Eagle One A to Z Wheel Cleaneer, let them sit for about 30 seconds and then hose 'em off.
Thats a lot easier than using SOS pads and I think they look just as good.
6 years and 120,000 miles and my cheapie steel rims still dont have any rust on them.

puree 05-22-2005, 09:11 PM that is the same way I used to do mine, but after this winter, they were looking pretty bad and it wouldnt cut it,,, I asked a buddy what he used and he said sos pads work great, just use them lightly,,,, made a BIG BIG difference

KEWL! I'll have to hit them up for some (they're a customer of mine). FWIW I know for a FACT that they have the hottest new wax out - their NXT Generation Tech Wax SMOKES their gold class wax and that's saying a LOT! New synthetic polymer formula - I was given a sample a month ago. Should be in the stores by now in purple bottle with bright green lid.
Cheers,
G MAN
flyin-lowe 06-01-2005, 06:53 PM I just started doing some polishing on my sled tonight and was using SEMICHROME. Seems to work well but havent tried the other stuff you guys mentioned to make a comparison. I originally bought it for some brass but tried it and it worked good. They sell it at Harley dealerships so I figured it must work. We all know how picky those Harley guys are.(almost as picky as the sledders of the world.)

same here it's alittle work but the results are worth it
flyin-lowe 06-11-2005, 09:20 AM Have any of you guys tried using a little buffing wheel or a polisher that goes in the end of a die grinder. A buddy of mine just polished an aluminum intake a radiator for a car he is building and he let the wheel do all of the work. I tired to use one on the rear of my sled and it shines good but if you look at it from different angles you can see swirls in it. His job is not like that so I need to find out his secret. He said he just uses the little round felt type attachment and mothers. Mirror shine and not as much of that elbow grease everyone is talking about.
snowmutt 06-13-2005, 05:44 PM I would say the swirls are from ether your wheel got some dirt in it or it was to dry and gummed up on ya . Ive notice the haze marks from the wheel so i ussally just get the elbow warmed up and go to town .
Even when i wheel anything out ill go back and give it another once over by hand .
Remember when your poilshing it,s actully taking a fine layer off just like sanding . So if you stay in one area longer than another it will leave marks (hazing , blemishes). also try going back in forth not in circles .
I tried the wheel thing on the new ride already , and put it up. I just rubbed her with love ! one side is close to being done .
