: 93 Formula Efi
flyin-lowe 05-12-2005, 06:04 AM Hey Guys,
I have a 93 Fromula Plus EFI 583. It has ran perfect for me for about 8 years and this past year I am having trouble with it. It seems like if it doesn't start the 2nd pull it will flood and then I can not get it started. Does anyone have any experience with the older fuel injectioin. The dealer I got it from (used) said it is the only one he has ever seen and has no experience with this fuel injection system. I cant find anyone around to work on it.
P.S. It has good spark and the compression check fine also. :bash:
Thanks for the help
revrnd 05-12-2005, 07:27 AM I didn't know any had been sold to the public. I had seen 1 @ a dealer show in Barrie the spring of '92, but then when autumn arrived I heard that 'doo had killed the model.

That is possible. I bought the sled used but it came from a dealer who is no longer in business. He bought it new for his personal use. As I said I have yet to find anyone who knows anything about this sled or has ever even heard of it or seen one. I might just call the pros and see what I can find out.
Up until now it has been awsome and runs like no other. Has over 4500 miles and will run side by side with my brother-in-laws 04 Rev 600HO. He hates that but its fun to rub it in since his down payment was more then what i paid for my sled.
chewbwon587 05-12-2005, 11:27 AM My buddy had the '92 and if it didn't start on the second pull he would do the overide of the EFI (I think you hold the throttle WO and pull, you should get a flashing light in the dash and also shouldn't get another pulse from the fuel pump after you pull). The other thing he did was carry a vice grip with him and pinch the fuel line off after the second pull. The sled was acting goofy just before he got rid of it and the overide sequence wouldn't work. Good luck.

flyin-lowe 05-12-2005, 12:30 PM Thanks chewbwon.
It is good to know someone out there knows something about this. I will try that and if not I will call Skidoo and find out more, I did not know that there was an overide sequence for the EFI. Sounds like a place to start though.
chewbwon587 05-12-2005, 07:59 PM Forgot one important step to get to the overide. Start with the key off, hold the throttle wide open and then turn the key on. You should get a flashing light on the dash to let you know the system is in overide mode. If you do try the vice grip trick a lot, this may be hard on the fuel pump. Sorry about leaving that out, its been a while.

flyin-lowe 05-12-2005, 08:27 PM Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. The sled is stored away so it will be a few days before I can get to it but I will let you know how it goes.
FreezerBurnt 05-13-2005, 03:36 AM They only built them in 93,I have seen a couple over the years
They were suppose to have a 94 Plus EFI Model I had the brochure but Skidoo later cancelled making them as they did not sell well in the spring break promos because of the new Formula Z and STX being cheaper and new chassis vs the prs Plus EFI
I can not find the brochure of the 94 I know I have it :cussing: and I know where my 93 brochure is though :sly:
I had the spring break 94 brochure with the 94 Plus EFI and also had a later 94 Doo brochure without that I picked in the fall :)
flyin-lowe 05-13-2005, 01:34 PM The night I first had trouble with the sled I was riding and my oil light started blinking. I immediately shut down and checked the oil and it was fine. I guess now this could be the flashing light you described when the EFI is bypassed. I started the sled back up and it still ran it just did not run good at all and the light was flashing. If I bypass the EFI like you stated will the sled run at all or what? It sounds more and more like this is my problem though.
Downriver Thunder 05-13-2005, 02:15 PM If it's that rare, maybe you should just store it for value later on.

I was going to say the same thing.
The '92 graphics were the white/black "triangle" on the hood. The '93 graphics was the light blue lightning stripe on the hood. The EFI was going to be all red even the seat, not a good look IMO. If you're friend had an EFI he may have thought it was a '92 because the serial # would have had a '92 build date.
Downriver Thunder 05-13-2005, 02:34 PM Here's my old 93 Plus Non EFI
Downriver Thunder 05-13-2005, 02:40 PM Real comfy seat, loved the purple windshield but boy, I couldn't keep that thing on the trail to save my life. I had DG twins on it, it sounded great, but it was non-rave.

This looks just like my sled however I do have the red seat. It might be hard to picture but everyone who has seen it says it looks a lot better with the red seat. It also has the same low-profile windshield which also helps the looks alot. Ill keep you guys informed if I find out anything else or I get it running. Hopefully this weekend I'll have time.
FreezerBurnt 05-13-2005, 05:05 PM I kinda like the all red seat with the optional low Red windshield from the Plus X on the Plus EFI :)
flyin-lowe 05-15-2005, 05:15 PM Well there is some good news. I stink of 2stroke fumes right now which means the old EFI came back to life after a year or so off. I tried to start it and as normal it would not start. So I by-passed the EFI like I was told and it still would not start. I pulled the plugs and blew some air from my compresser into the cylinder to try to clean er out. I then turned the key on and she fired on the first pull like it used to. I still dont know what is causing it to flood but at least I can bypass the EFI to help get it started. She not 100% but its a starting point. :D :D :D

Hey flyin your not the only one that has a 93 efi, so do I. I have had problems with mine too. we should stay in contact with each other. Did you figure out the codes? I have them if you haven't. I have a idle RPM that is way too high and have tried everything. Mine also is hard too start. Fill me in on what you have found and I will stay in touch.
oldyeller 10-30-2005, 10:57 AM I almost bought one of these sleds new back in the day...I waited for a year to avoid first year bugs and then they dropped the sled so I ended up buying a STX instead...I always wondered how they performed and if they were reliable. The dealers didn't seem to want to have anything to do with them back then so I can imagine what it's like now. :bash:

Send me an email and I will let you know what I have found out on mine. So far since I have learned you can shut the Efi off to start it I have always been able to get it running. However I have not been able to start it without shutting the EFI off since I learned to do that. :bash: :bash: Anyway I am now deciding if I want to keep it for the wife and or a back up or sell it.
