i have a 86 jeep cherokee. it has a blown up 2.8 v6 in it right now. i just picked up a 4.3 out of a 86 blazer. i was wondering if it will bolt right in, or if im going to make any modifications. theyre both gm v6's so i think it will work. also, can parts off of the two be interchanged, like pulleys, and the water pump. stuff like that. thanx ahead of time.

The 60* V6 2.8 & 90* V6 4.3 are 2 completely different motors. The 2.8 was a new design when it came out in the X bodies in '80. The 4.3 is basically a 350 small block w/ 2 cylinders removed.
I checked the 5th edition of Chevrolet Power to see if they had any info about motor mount & bellhousing hole locations & there wasn't anything. Your best bet would be to contact Advance Adapters. They make kits to put various engines, trannies & transfer cases in different 4x4s. If there is a decent offroad shop in your area, maybe they can help you.
Since the Cherokee never had a factory Chev small block, you'll have to fab or buy motor mounts for it.
I'll go out on a limb & say that the 4.3 won't directly bolt up to the tranny. That's where you'll definitely need an adapter or tranny that was mounted to a 4.3 Then you'll probably will get into transfer case compatibility issues.
I don't know what accessories off the 2.8 can be swapped on to the 4.3 Are you sure the Blazer was a '86? My S15 had a 4.3 & it was a '88, which was the 1st year for the S/T pickups to get the 4.3
You could also look for parts off a full size pickup as the '85 & '86 C/K trucks used the 4.3 instead of the 250 straight 6.
The threaded holes in the 4.3 will be UNC (or SAE to some people). Some threaded holes in accessory brackets may be metric. While the holes in the 2.8 are threaded metric.

Not sure of where, but there are suppliers out there that will have some type of a kit for the installation. Few years ago a buddy swapped in a 350 Chev for a guy using a kit, a little searching should come up with something. Man did it wake that one up!
