True, I had thought of that too. KTM has had lots of success in enduro racing (they have dominated the Paris-Dakar rally for years) with their 4-stroke motorcycle engines. However, I think that Polaris' ATV engines are just as far along (take the Predator, and Sportsman 800 EFI for example).
The other thing that I thought about was that perhaps Polaris wants to make a smaller Victory. Perhaps they want to make something like the Yamaha V-Star 650 or the Honda Shadow 750. If people could buy an American-made cruiser for $6000, it would sell like mad. It would certainly be a much better deal that the H-D Sportster 883. KTM does have an awsome 650 v-twin enduro bike.
I still think they are going to enter into the dirtbike market though...

As much as Id like to see that, Im betting that Polaris will use their partnership with KTM to enter the European market.
They have already talked about building a plant in Europe.
