: What Is The Spec For Idle Rpm?

I need the stock rpm at idle for my 2002 ZR 800. I am thinking that it is to low now as the sled vibrates somewhat. Or do the big blocks just naturally shake more? It doesn't appear to be a broken motor mount or any thing like that. If I remember right when I started it last time it idled right around 1000 rpm, seems a little low but not sure.

Thanks,
Z-Rider

The carbed 800s are a little finicky sometimes.
Just leave it where it's at for now. Wait till it gets cold outside.
1000 is fine and yes they do shake a little more.
Spec is right around 1300.
I keep mine at closer to 800 because when it's really cold the idle like to hang up around 2000. Then I just burped the choke and she comes down.

Not a problem, glad to help.

Just remember that what I tell you is only what I have found with my sled. Your's may be different.
Other people may have found and will tell you different things too.

Did you ever check your power valve clearance.

No I have not had the time but I am going to try to do it this week. I just have to pull the power valve out and look down the bore for scuffing on the side of the piston right.

Thanks,

I always thought the factory spec. for '02 ZR800 idle was 1500 rpm.
I usually run mine around 1300 to help eliminate that high idle syndrome although opening the air screws helped most. That advise came right from Greg Spaulding, AC's chief 2 stroke engineer and the architect of the 800 twin.

Yes, air screw does help.

That's why I said around 1300. I can't remember the exact. Plus I think it's a range anyway, maybe it was 13-1500.

Anything under 1500 makes a huge difference in controlling the annoying idle hang up / lean ping.
