What known electrical faults were (is) there on the 530 ext?
Like the wire between “X” and “Y” breaking, lose at the end of “Z”
Or short cutting at “W”
Sometimes (50% off the time) I got misfiring at low (idle and just above) rpm:s
When this occurs idle rpm drops almost like running on 1 cyl.
But when giving it more throttle it runs great again.
I changed sparkplugs, the teeter switch and bypassed the throttle switch (no better) :bash:
There is not a mecanical fault, and the carbs. are clean.
Any one had this kind off problem back in the days of the El-Tigre

Check your plug wire caps, eventually they will wear out and can cause misfiring. Don't recall the resistance off hand, but the late model molded rubber caps are a direct replacement for the hard plastic ones on the older sleds.

Pretty sure the resistance on the caps is 5000 ohms and yes it's a good place to start. They can be decieving based upon temperature.
We have a 530 with an electrical gremlin as well, but ours is a 6000rpm miss/break-down, then it won't start and next it's back to normal. Driving me crazy.

Last winter I measured the resistance in the "caps" (5K ohm), but that was at inside the garage temperature.
And they are the old originals, so i will replace them.
More things to lock at any one?

My brother and another guy that I used to ride with on occasion both had 530 EXTs. Both of there ignition switches went in theirs. My brothers did some wierd things till we figured it out.

This one (the ignition switch) did also have the "right" ohm reading (proxy 1ohm) in the garage..
But i will bypass it and try if this can be the source off evil :D (if changing caps don't cur it)
The sad thing is that all my "ohm" readings seamed ok in the garage, and the cat run just great when staring it these times :slick:

Yes, check the ignition switch they get moisture inside and cause weird things to happen. Kevin
May also want to check compression of both cylinder IF no electrical trouble are found. If there is a cylinder that is too low it will only fire at higher rpm.

That was one of the first things i checked
comp. is equal and the problem appears "only" now and then...
(feels like 50% of the time, and "always" when around other people)
