Where can I buy slides for my 02 MxZ 800 that will last? My original slides (black) that came on the sled lasted 1900 miles. I put new ones (yellow) that I bought from dealer (not sure if they were original Ski Doo or not) and they are shot at 2900 miles. They only lasted 1000 miles. I adjusted the track tension with a tension checking tool when I installed them and they wore out way to soon. Why do the Ski Doos where slides so fast? My friend has a 02 ZR 800 that rides everywhere I do and he has yet to replace his slides in 3000+ miles. He weighs 325 lbs w00t and I only weigh 225 lbs so I know it is not a weight thing. What gives?

I'm gonna try some graphite slides because of the same reasons this year. Cudneyracing.com has some on sale right now...$30 a pair. Royal Distributing also sells them.

I've always been of the opinion that the black sledes are longer lasting than coloured slides. The coloured slides don't contain any carbon black which acts as a lubricant.

I'll vouch for Cat slides, 5400 miles on mine and it's a heavy ZL 600 esr, might be time now though. :)

Maybe its the area I ride but all of the sleds in our group only get about 300-500mi out of slides. I am almost sure its the snirt on the "bear skin" if any of you know where I'm talking about.
But regardless I have never ever on any sled I've owned gotten better than 1000mi out of slides/hyfax. I do however change them as soon as they start thining out in the front.

Ive got a 93 Formula plus EFI with 4000 miles and never changed the slides on it. Never had a problem. You must really like the snirt if you are only getting 500 - 1000miles.

I run aftermarket slides. the only run between $12 - $18 a pair at the swap meets. I buy the yellow ones. My slides get replaced every year reguardless. Whats $20. That way i know i'm good, the skids is out anyways at the start of the year to grease bearings and charge shocks. Thats my rule anyways every year i replace slides, carbides and the belt. If i bought the factory slides at $50 and only replaced them every 2 years, i'm still ahead spending $20 every year.

although i've only ever used black slides most of the problem with premature wear has to be what is mixed in the snow. one of my sleds that i replaced the slides for the first time at about 7000 kms needed replacing at 2500 km the year before last. my REV i had to replace them under 1000 miles and it looks like this second set are going to get me 3000 miles. go figure :dazed:

Put new red slides on last fall, 1000 miles on her this season.
Ripped the suspension off this summer, did the idler wheels, checked the slides, they look almost brand new. Some wear on them, but I'm not even thinking about replacing them till next year.

I've never been able to duplicate the amount of wear I get out of an original set of sliders(as in what came installed on the sled brand new).I'm not sure why, perhaps it has something to do with the track clip wear as well?.I used to think it was because I was not buying original Bombi sliders but I tried some and they didn't last as long as the originals either.I'm not complaining though I usually get 2-3000 kms out of a set but then again when the sled is new I average about 5-7000.....I did try a set of graphite sliders years ago and they did not even last me the full winter :bash:

Are you tempering the slides? Take them on hardpack and heat them up..then on powder to cool..and repeat..

I've been using graphite sliders from Royal for the past 4 years with very good luck. have a pair for the gade, which will go on this year, as soon as I take the storage cover off.

alot of it has to do with snow conditions, I went out ice fishing put a new OEM set of slides on, drove about 19 miles with a passenger and some materials, when I got back to shore I was to the medal in spots. with yellow all over the back tail light and end of the seat. :bash: All the time I was on about 1 inch of snow, and could smell them while driving.

I have used both the black and the yellow and found they lasted approx the same. I have thought about the graphite ones but heard they only last 1/2 as long. Alot less friction but no endurance. Manly used for racing.
