Well, the Minister of Finance (wife) said go ahead and get a sled (with some qualificiations, of course), if I wanted one. I was at the Big East Show and kind of narrowed it down to an Apex ER or an Attak GT. Which one do you guys think? I like both and have never owned a 136" one-up. I ride mostly groomed to rough trails, I like speed on the lakes.

The dealer said he'll sell me either or both. Nice guy that he is.

Thanks!

Gary, Attak GT? Is there such a thing? Anyway, I would go with the 136" skid all day long. Longtracked my ZR 3 years ago and have never looked back. Was concerned about trail manners as 90% of my riding is on the tight trails of Wisconsin and the UP, but there were no major issues...just a little adjusting of the ski pressure. The longer track will help you on the rough trails too. It will allow you to simply glide over the smaller bumps, and usually not allow you to completely fall into the bigger ones. I also like the longer track for traction...kept me from going with studs. I really don't see any negatives of going with the longer skid...unless you have a short trailer, lol.

When exactly is this election anyways??? I'm getting a little sick of the tight-wad that running my household too! :D

Congrats Gary on being allowed to spend your money as you see fit. :blush: I'm sure that no matter which machine you choose, you'll be a happy man. Maybe take your dealer's advice and go with both, I'd be glad to break-in one of them for you....

What's the difference again? I'm having trouble keeping all of Yamaha's new models straight in my head.

I was at the Yamaha dealer in Espanola yesterday and had a look at the Apex. Seems nice, I like the ergo's, though I would still need at least a 2" riser for the bars.Can't quite reach the bars when standing.

One thing I couldn't figure out how to do was find the motor. Wanted to have a look at it, but no luck there. I tried to pop the hood, but it seems to be just a maze of removable pannels.

I also saw the new VK. Now THAT'S COOL!! I wish I needed a utility sled because I think the VK is sweet, and looks like it would be lots of fun too.

Stopped into Sandy Cove North today to see what they had, and I got my first look at the Nytro and the Attack, both of which are very sweet. Love the look of the Nytro, but wish it was available in a 136". The Attack is nice of course, but alittle pricy, and I think the new torsion spring suspension of the Nytro, along with the floater shocks in the front is going to be the way to go.

Doesn't much matter to me of course, I'm still happy with mine for at least one more winter, but I have to admit that the Yamaha's are looking good. Even the high sticker prices aren't that bad. Comparing the cost of a snowmobile to a Yamaha F-stroke outboard it's like buying the motor and getting the rest of the sled for free.

I still think Yamaha should have carried over the Warrior name though. It's kind of confusing trying to learn so many new names on sleds that are so similar.

I was also amused to find that the Nytro has "the most power in it's class". Seeing as Yamaha is comparing it to other sleds with a similar power output as opposed to similar displacement, how can they claim to have the most power in it's class? If anything, it's in a class by itself.

The Apex is a 121 and the Attak is a 136 (I believe), some other differences. To get to the motor is even more complicated than a REV, but then again, how often do you need to get in there? The originals I saw at the spring show had 3 removeable panels. Don't know if they changed that, though they did make some nice fixes since that show (trunk flap and such.

I think it goes like this

The old Warrior is now Apex. the models are

ER = Base unit
RTX = rought trail
Attack = hybird 136" track
The above all have slightly differnt suspensions, electric start and reverse

GT = all the extra's like electronicly adjustable suspension.

I ordered the RTX, I ride mostly trails and can not see the longer track turning as well. I like a loose handleing condition.

And the boss said keep the 03 ZR900, I might ride it. The last sled she had see put 200 miles on in 3 years. Now I see that as an opportunity for a dedicated lake racer. After 7,000 mikes a new set of ring and proper lake set up should perk the old boy up.

Technically, the new deltabox II design sleds are not the same as the last years due to many differences such as motor modifications, suspension, etc. Basically whole new sleds.

However, the roles that the new sleds are replacing for the RX-1 and Warrior are as follows:

Rx-1-Apex
Warrior-Attak

There is no "C" in ATTAK. Iv seen this in magazines and it shouldnt be.

The base models for some sleds in yamaha's lineup are just regular, such as the RSVector, which then could come in ER, which just adds reverse, and the GT, standing for "groomed trail", which has a more groomed trail friendly suspension and corners flatter than the ones equiped with fox floats. In the APEX RTX, the "RT" stands for "rough trail"

Yamaha should have made a Nytro Warrior IMO

Aka the same seating position as the Nytro but with a Torsion spring 136inch skid

If I were to buy Yamaha new for 06 it would be a tough choice between the Rage and the Nytro

The Rage is nice but the Nytro seating position is where it is at IMO yet the 136 would be a must IMO

It's too bad that Yamaha doesn't read any of the sled forums. I have heard about 100 people post wishing that the Nytro was a 136". I think "Nytro Warrior" would be awesome.

Man, the '06's are ALL so awesome, I'm glad I dont have to (read not allowed to) make up my mind again this year! I'll suffer through with my Vector ER but if I were trading up, I think it would be the Apex GT or Attak. I think Id have to change the windshield if it were an Apex, but that's just perference. A little too bat-like for me.

Suffer no more :)

Drive up to Sudbury and unload that Vector at my place

I will even buy you a beer

I would be willing to help a fellow sledder anytime he want to get rid of a sled that he feels it causes him to suffer :lmao:

I agree 100%. I know iv said it a few times and go on about it all the time. From what iv seen my dads 151" track on his RSVenture TF, and how that thing spins out on snow when he gets on the gas, I cant imagine a 121" track handling that much torque. A 136" would be much better, and after reading the awsome reviews on the Nytro torsion spring suspension, they definately should make a 136" version. Maybe more yamaha's next year will feature that skid.

Alot of brands now feature longer track such as the firecat, switchback, renegade and warrior, and almost seems like a trend. Maybe yamaha will do the same for the Nyto.

Reverse is an option on the RTX.
