: Here Ends The Rust Game
permafrost 10-08-2005, 09:37 AM I was sick and tired of having to touch up the rockers and other countless stone chips on the truck every year. Even after I added the mudflaps it seemed to help very little. I decided to end it once and for all. :D I had the truck sprayed with Line-X from the front to the back and up to the body molding. Some people may not like the texture of the product on their vehicle, but IMHO I like the looks of it. Here is a link to an earlier article on SW about LINE-X (http://www.snowmobileworld.com/feature_story/linex/index.php)
Looks good, Perm. I'm having the same problem on the Magnum. I think I'll have that sprayed on the rocker panels, too. Not as high as you did, though. I don't think it would look as good on a car.
permafrost 10-08-2005, 09:46 AM Zog, you can have it colour matched to your vehicle. That helps it blend in alot better, and the colour is all the way through the product, not just on the surface.
zr580cat 10-08-2005, 10:21 AM I was going to do that to my truck, but we traded it. I think it looks good, and yes, you can do it to match the vehicle. I saw a truck a couple months ago that was sprayed in full, the whole dang truck! It looked funny, but I'm sure it will resist a lot of things!
snofrog 10-08-2005, 04:08 PM i am making a new front bumper for my jeep and as soon as it is done i will get it linexed .lowest price ive found so far is $75 with the highest being $225
permafrost 10-08-2005, 04:12 PM That is quite a difference in prices sno frog. It certainly pays to shop around, :). I am adding some step bars and a front bumper mount(deer catcher). I was also thinking about getting them done as they are notorious for rusting out. I saw a front winch bumper mount done at the line-x dealers and it looked mint.

paul yarek 10-08-2005, 05:32 PM now as long as you are squirting the inner with something that will slow the corrosion it will be almost a life timer.

Paul I spray it down twice a year with diesel oil and under the hood with a stickier kind of oil that doesnt run as much under hood. I am going to get it pressure washed down and inspected underneath for any rust prior to this winter.

01MxzNightRider 10-11-2005, 11:11 AM I think its a great idea ..... do they give you the same warrenty they do with the beds ? If it does rust through or ware off will the repair it for free ?
JasonF 09-07-2007, 05:15 PM Hey Jeff
Just curious to see how your Line X is holding up? I'm getting ready to do my bed and rails on my new Dmax but was considering doing around the bottom as well. Not quite as high as you have yours but maybe 5-6" inches up. :)

fwiw mine is holding up ... looks like new dispite my best efforts to mess it up. lol M
michahicks 09-07-2007, 08:51 PM I haven't seen it used recently, but there used to be some stuff you sprayed on like that you could paint to match afterward. That left a glossy finish and the casual first glance wouldn't even notice that it had been done. Is this the same stuff? I had forgotten all about it. Had it done on my 74 Chev. back in the day when they were having all the trouble with that junk metal that rusted out in 2-3 years. Now, with the trucks being so expensive, would make a lot of sense again.
snow prowler 09-08-2007, 10:11 AM I need to do this to my truck. After I getting the body done first. I have some rust coming through the bottom of the doors now. I like the way Permafrost's truck looks with it. I have the same truck.

Jason it is holding up mint, this summer alone I have put close to ten tonnes of Slab stone in the back and it didnt even leave a mark. The one thing that it doesn't like is Carbides,:( but they will also gouge granite rock and steel. I only wish that I had done it as soon as I purchased the truck. There are a couple small spots where there is rust underneath at the edges. I am going to have that repaired next fall. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who want to protect their investment.
There is a new product from Dupont that can be applied on top of the Line-x. It uses a prep then apply any colour you want. There is also a spray type cleaner available in the USA that can be applied once a year to keep it new and shiny looking. The name escapes me at the moment.
I see other late 90's Rams around here that are rusted out bad around the doors so it has definitely made a major difference.
I will try to take some pics later today, as we are installing new windows in the house this afternoon.

Thanks guys, I'm getting my bed done at dealer cost now I need to see what it'll cost me to do the rest
permafrost 09-08-2007, 04:14 PM Jason the key is to get it all done at one time, as the encapsulation process is the longest part of the job. Take some pics when you get it finished.

I hate to sound stupid but what is the encapsulation process :lookaround: ? My guess is its the body prep before the spray???
permafrost 09-08-2007, 07:11 PM You got it Jason, taping it all off is time consuming but mandatory for over spray.
It took alot more time to tape it off than to prep and spray the vehicle.
switchback600 09-10-2007, 12:02 AM ooo..i plan on doing this someday also...same height too i want it to the point where my body panels dip in inside the doors and tailgate..i think itll look cool on a white truck..lol...i bought the cheap dupli-color and did the bottom inside of the doors where you step and the door rubs a bit(bad bushings and pins) and it actually is holding up great!.....i got an estimate about 1.5 years ago to do all of that and the bed they said it would be around $1200..ouch!....but its worth it to save that body i am already having issues with the cab corners but cant afford it yet so i keep painting over it...lol....those 31x10.5's dont help with rocks.....
crnsuperduty 09-10-2007, 09:24 AM Thanks for the update!!
I am planning to do this to my truck this fall also. These pics helped me make up my mind. My truck has bad rust inside the door bottoms and behind all 4 tires. BFG's are great off road, but they are horrible on body work.
Anyhow the truck is getting painted this fal (lowers anyhow). Once thats done, I'll be having it sprayed with line-x or rhino.
Not sure what color to have done yet though. The truck is white.
