I was up to the Toronto sled show today & picked up the 2006 OFSC TOP Trail Guide (the fold out trail map) & it looks like there was MAJOR rationalization of the trails between Thunder Bay & Kenora this summer. Only TOP A & D110MN are shown. Also, there is no trail between T.B. & Nipigon. TOP A & D from the east end to the Nipigon area has been finally removed from the map after a couple of winters of not being open.

West of T.B., TOP A goes to Atikokan (TOP D last winter), north to Sioux Lookout on what was D114A & A116. From There to Dryden on old A116, back on the original TOP A until west of Vermillion Bay where the route goes south to follow D117A & old TOP D thru Kenora to the Manitoba border.

As a result, my mileages & motel info for that area may not be all that accurate. Before planning a trip in this area contact the OFSC @ click (http://www.ofsc.on.ca)

After seeing the differences in the OSM Map Atlas & the OFSC's TOP Trail Guide, I emailed both & this is the OFSC's reply:

Hello Kris,

Thank you for your inquiry in regards to the OFSC TOP Trail Guide.

Ontario Snowmobiler Magazine (OSM) is an independent publisher. OSM gathers their trail guide data from a variety of sources. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) does not assume responsibility for the accuracy of the material printed in the OSM Trail Atlas. The OFSC has advised OSM that their Atlas contains significant errors and remain hopeful that OSM will notify readers in their next issue. The 2006 OFSC TOP Trail Guide is the correct representation of the routes.

I trust this addresses your concern.

I see the North Western Ontario Snowmobile Trails Association (NWOSTA) has published a new trail map. It lloks like the former OFSC TOP trails are now local trails & will be open this winter. You can see the map @ Map (http://www.nwosta.ca/map.html)

Algoma Al here,
Just want to let every one know that Lake Lauzon Resort is now open all year as it once was. The new owners are planning on bring back the resort to its former glory and hope to have fuel there before the end of summer. Located right on the D trail in Algoma Mills Ontario.
