I know that ive put this question in three forums, but i couldnt figure out which one to put it in, but here it is. I had a question about fixing rails. I am still looking into long tracking my Indy 500 and found what seems to be a good deal unless the price goes way up, but one of the rails has a small bow in it near the rubber bump stop. The guy says its easy to fix and make it as rigid as it once was. I was wondering how to fix this bow in the rail and if it is worth it or will it just give me problems in the future? All the advice anyone can give on this topic would be great. Thanks.

I would find a used straight skid for it. What year is it? If it is a little older, You should be able to find one cheap.

"small bow by the rubber bump stop", we need more info. If you are saying that the rail by itself has a small bow, left to right, that will straighten out when its is bolted together with the other one and all of the rear suspension parts, probably no probelm. If you are saying, "man I hit a boulder last year at speed and put a dent in the rail ( up and down style), that may be bad as aluminum does not take major bends or kinks very well. It will stress crack and eventually break. I have had success in using small steel plates to patch egged out suspension mounting holes, but that's about it for the aluminum rails.

If the rail isn't kinked anywhere it can be slowly pressed back straight with a hydraulic press. The rails are generally made from T6 grade aluminum extruded. They aren't the strongest material at the best of times but a good weight / cost comprimize. Focus on slowly straightening and you'll be OK.

Thanks for all the help, i am waiting on the guy to send me better pictures, if he does, ill put up the link for them, but it seems as though it might be a pain, so probably not worth it. Thanks again.
