I saw "ice scratchers" for sale from a local dealer. Supposedly they "scratch" the snow in low snow conditions to keep things lubricated. Anyone know if they work? Worth doing?

I had them on last year & my track ate one in really bad conditions I would probly put them back on but my spot I had them in, the spinng was hitting them on hard hits.Sled dont over heat so unless Im going to do some lake racing Ill just leave them off.But they do throw the snow if thats what your looking for,Just kind of a pain for trails as you need to lift them to cross rodes if you want them to last.

Added a set of Holz scratchers last season. Well spent $65.
I run a Polaris SKS 700 (144 2inch track). Took off the front bogeys (was a bit worried about that decision to begin with but no abnormal slide wear whatsoever after 1000 miles).
First trip out last year with 8 other sleds in the UP with temps at 10 degrees F and lower. Minimal snow cover on the lake we usually run to get to the trailhead, mostly bare ice. As I recall every other sled (Yamaha Warrior,Yamaha Vector, Revs, XCs) had to run the shoreline where there was more snow. Perfectly normal that they got hot but this lake is about 12 miles long so it took awhile along the shore! Anyways, I tried running the ice for a bit with the scratchers and I think I could have run it all day - pretty awesome! On the trails they functioned great and didn't seem to affect anything other than you do not want to be following close to someone with these things as it's a WHITE SQUALL complete with ice chips and all. Easy to disengage.
