I've had two Polaris covers, one I bought in Nov 2003, and the other in Nov 2001. They both have held up very nicely. The older one is a little faded, but not much, and the newer one still looks like new.

My "agressive" cover I got in '02 with my xcsp is faded but holding up good and it sat outside the first year I had it without a tarp over it. The only thing I've done to mine is hose it down at the end of the year to wash any salt and junk out of the fabric from hauling on my open trailer.
I agree you should not have to buy one every year or every other year or even every 3rd year. I'd say for the price you pay for one of those covers, it should last longer than that. Is it possible that the tarp and cover rubbed together enough in the wind or anything to eat the cover and make it fall down off the windshield?

a little more detail is that you can take a piece of it from around the handlebar area and it falls apart like battery acid does to fabric.i took a hunk with me to the dealer from the gas cap zipper area where i pulled it all apart very easily.thanks
