: New or used vehicle?

Just wondering if any of you have a strong oppinion one way or another.
The wife talked me into selling my S-10 and getting something else, since we have a baby on the way. I figured might as well get a minivan, they have a lot of utility and will still be able to tow the sled.
We weren't really planning on buying new, but after GM discount and rebates on 2002's, the price is really good on a new one (Chevy Venture). We'd save almost $8,000 off sticker on a new 2002!
On the other hand, we were going to try to save some money as well. The new van would have the same payments as my truck.
My question I guess is, What would you guys do? Buy new with 0 miles, or get a used one 1998 or 1999 with 50,000 miles on it and get the extended warranty and save a little cash?
Does anyone have a strong oppinion of either?
Anyone for or against used cars with more than 50,000 on them?
We need to make a decission soon, because there are very few 2002's left. He could only pull up 11 in a 300 mile radius.
Thanks for your input.

I cant give you advise on buying a minivan because im totally against them. *

If you can afford a bit more and you want to pull a trailer i would suggest you go with a SUV. *Maybe not a huge v8 one but there are many on the market that offer the same emount passenger capacity as a mini van. *

Also mini van trannys and drivetrain are weak to begin with so they can offer car like prices. *This is why i dont think its a good idea to pull and use one in a utility manner.

Another thing to worry about on minivans is maintance. *I've heard that the front 1/4 panel has to come off just to change the spark plug on some of these minivans adding hours to the job. *As far as a new vehicle get the newest thing you can afford with Warranty. *We learned the hard way after constantly having to fix used vehicles. The repairs would cost more than the monthly payment of a new vehicle. Ya just cant lose with 0% interest.

The only reason I picked a minivan over an SUV is gas mileage. Believe me, I don't really want to drive a minivan, but if it's cheaper...
Also, I'm trying to sell my sled, so I probably won't have to tow anything for a while if I do sell it. By the time I get another sled, I might have a truck or something to replace the car we have. I don't want to sell the sled either, but our house is on the market and not moving, so we have to get rid of something to save $$, so the sled gets the boot. *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

In the long run you'll be better off with the SUV - maybe a Tahoe\Yukon. *There's as much room as a minivan, only requires 87 octane and looks a lot better - plus better resale.

Just dont buy a Windstar *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

It takes 3 men and a boy to change the rear spark plugs. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif What a design http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sarcasm.gif

A Venture or Montana would be my choice. Go for it dude.

hey i disagree the windstar is great.

*when it comes to used or new just figure out the payments sometimes the cost of new is less if you consider the cost os repairs to an older buggy

With most dealers offering 0% financing you would be better off with a new vehicle. As for the mini-van thing..I would'nt be caught dead in one. What about a quad cab dodge cummins diesel?? Very safe for the new bambino.Diesel is cheaper than gas and diesels seem to run forever. We got a diesel because we rack on the km, that way by the time you finish paying for it you still have a truck that is worth something. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I foyu doo buy an suv i would recomend the bigger engine. My friend bought the six-banger and the thing drinks gas when towing like it is going out of style(she bought the eddie baurer exploder). She says she shoulda bought the bigger motor one.

Went to another dealer yesterday. I think we might be ordering a Pontiac Aztek. *I know, I know, they're ugly, but you actually get a lot for your money. It rides nice and has a V6. You can remove the back seat and it will fit 4x8 plywood. You can get All wheel drive or traction controll, and side air bags, and it has the best roll-over rating. I think we're going to order one and get the tow package on it. Since we plan on keeping it for a long time, it should help the life of the engine I think. I haven't heard anything bad yet about them, other than they're ugly of course, but I think it's growing on me. The smaller payment helps too. lol
