Yeah so Im a college student and didnt have the money for a sweet sled so with a trade in of my old 440 mxz- I got a new 2005 gsx brand new from old forge power sports in Old forge. NY I wanted to get the mxz rev renegade cuz i love the trail and the powder of playing and boodocking sidehilling all that nonsense. So i figure might as well get a gsx for now then upgrade later - So im thinking about raising the bars 4 inch and throwing the windshield off and going something moree low profile and then runnning some black acerbis hand guards. Is that stupid to do on gsx or am just trying to make a tahoe hanldle like a ferrai?? Anyhow thoughs much appreciated!!! New to the sled forum and sled tricking out thing. But can ride with best of garth kaufmans friends (shout out to leftie in Jackson hole!)

The only thing that makes your GSX a GSX (over an MXZ fan) is the higher windshield, mirrors, elec. start, and htd. visor plug in. Your sled is just as mod-friendly as the MXZ, just has the mellow grapics.
I would first suggest you pull the mirrors (antlers) and the stock windshield and put something low and fixed. Add the handguards. Then I would pull all the graphics off.
You could do black/chrome look (i.e, silver grill kit (spray paint), chrome handguards, chrome cobra winshield, clear tail light)
Up until now-
low fixed winshield (cobra)- $70
handguards (sportech)- $45
spray paint- $5
clear tailight- $25
Up until now, we're at $145. Not too bad.
As far as a riser, not all riders need them (i.e shorter riders or sit-down riders), so if that is a problem for you, get a riser. Another point is the shocks- they are designed for very easygoing riders. If you feel you outride them (only adjustment is rear torsion spring), then upgrade them. The pilot skis are also a good improvement over the stock single-carbide skis. This is the part that gets expensive.
As far as the engine, the fans are kinda "what ya see is what ya get". Not much potential in this area.
Either way, have fun in what you do and keep us updated.

Nothing wrong with the idea, like DropTop replied it's an MXZ with a few bells and whistles. The 550 fan doesn't have the HPG shocks but you can upgrade at a later date if you feel you need them.
Oh, by the way, welcome to the forum :christmas:

yeah they come off sooooo sooooo easy with a simple hair dryer and hit it with some spray goof off and then wax it after to get that sticky resadu off.
