Polaris has admitted, (though they haven't advertised,) problems in the design, materials and/or workmanship of their early 550s. I realize that most people, especially lower 48ers, have not had much trouble with them but they (the 99, 00, and 01 models) have come apart with perplexing regularity. Does anyone have 2-3 grand on their 02 yet and have there been real improvements in the design of the engines? I honestly wouldn't buy another Polaris fan (what else is there where the snow is thin or hard?) until they make something as reliable as the old 440 and 488 fans.
