Hi- new here. Own a 2002 Grand Touring that recently will not start with the electric start but will still pull start. Then we lost all the electrical - no lights, no gauges. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Sounds like a dead battery.
Did you charge it?
You may have to replace it.

we got a new battery today but it needs to charge for 10 hours. so we'll see if that is it. I don't know much about snowmobiles - how long do batteries usually last?

I don't really know how long a battery can last on a sled. I've known a battery to die after a year and a battery to last several.

I think it depends on if it's maintained in the offseason using a low amp/volt charger or not.

They will not last very long if they freeze when they are dead. Keep it charged and it should last a few years

I am not sure about your starting problem but it does sound like a battery.
However losing all your lights and gauges is a different snag.
I just fixed that same problem on my 2002 Grand Touring this morning. It's a sticky relay switch. There are two of them. One attached right beside the fuses and one just above where the choke cable goes through the shroud. just swap one for the other to find which one it is. mine was the lower one. I think the upper one is a charging relay. If you are having battery problems you may need to change both.
A calibrated tap on the side of them with a screwdriver can sometimes make them work for a while.

Now there is a spare one on my tool kit as that little piece of important electronics just cost me my first chance to hit the trails this year.

There are several people posting this snag on various forums. One user even posted replacement part numbers (Candian Tire, NAPA etc ) ( Just 'GOOGLE ' something like "Ski-doo lights do not work and engine runs" and you'll find lots of great info.)

CLICK. I JUST TRIED TO ENTER THE LINK HERE BUT AM ELECTRONICALLY CHALLENGED
THE THREAD WHICH HAD ALL THE PARTS NUMBERS ETC WAS ON DOOTALK.COM
POSTED BY "SOCOM"

I picked mine up at Candian Tire for $6.99 vs Ski-Doo's $30 +

Hope this helps
Now can someone tell me how to copy and paste a link as I was trying to doo here ??

hey there not sure if you got your sled fixed but i had the same problem with my 98 Grand Touring 700 and it was a blown fuse found on the throtle side near chaincase i replaced just to see it melt the entire holder and no blow the fuse i was then amazed to see that happen and still not sure why so i replace the fuse holder and found a small wire around the air box that was melted in a couple spots so i cut and taped it and have not had the problem since ...i was just reading some threads seeing how i havent been on here for awhile and im not sure why anyone did not mention this but if you ask me its DEFINATLY a FUSE
