hopefully someone here can help, I was riding my 1995 indy 500 EFI for about an hour or so and I went over a small bump and it just coasted to a stop. I let it sit for a while and gave it a pull and it started right up. then i got down the trail about 1 mile and it died again. while I was checking it for spark I noticed i had no spark, then two pulls later i got spark, put the plugs back in and rode it for another 10 mins, got it on the trailer and figured it was just acting up. later that night i had a chance to take it back out and it did exactly the same thing, it got about an hour of good running then it all went bad again. I have tried a new cdi box already and that did not fix the problem. so I am thinking the only thing left is the stator. I have heard of checking the kill switch by unplugging it, but unsure of what that is supposed to do. Also i have been told maybe the little black button in the throttle, but not sure how to check that. any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

One thing to check is the spark plug cap. I had the same thing happen on my old 93 500 EFI. Same thing, riding one day hit a bump and I lost a cylinder. Pulled the plugs, all was OK, started her up , ran another 10 miles, same thing again. After a lot of head scratching, I noticed that the spark plug caps were not 'snapping on" like they used to. Looked up inside the cap , and low an behold, the metal insert was broken into 3 pieces. Put new caps on, no more problem . Probably not the stator, have not heard of a lot of failures there, your kill switch just grounds out the ignition when down, disconnecting it will not allow that to happen.

there is a black wire coming out your cdi box. there is a connector on it going towards the handlebars.if you unhook that wire it will disconnect the throttle, kill, and safety switch.if it cures the prob you know its one of those three.oh i also think its a ground for the warmers but not positive on that.hth

Kinda sounds like a ground problem. I would check all your wires. May be rubbing on the chassis, and wore off the coating on the wire somewhere. Check the simple stuff first b4 you go out and spend $$ on something you may not need.
