: Trailor Jack Or Trailor Dolly?
me&mymxz 12-28-2005, 10:54 PM It seems that with my new trailor I will have to be man handling it to get it in and out of the garage so my question is should I use a trailor jack with the pivot wheel or the trailor dolly. Princess auto has the dolly on sale
Pros' and cons of each are welcome
thanks
James,I would get the wheel jack. Just keep it lubed up good.

trailblazer 12-29-2005, 12:35 AM Hi James
The trailer jack obviously is more versatile and is always where-ever you are. However, I've found that the cheap plastic wheels just drag along instead of rolling. I know PA also sells a jack with 2 soft rubber tires. (I'm not sure if they're inflatable or not.) I think it's rated for 500 LBS. Those tires should maintain traction and roll along as you manipulate the trailer into position. This jack may also be the one that has the 2 handles that allow you to ratchet the trailer along. Not sure though.
A trailer dolly works better and gives you more control as you manuever the trailer into it's spot. However, it'll be a pain to carry it along with you when you leave home.
They also carry a motorized one for the low, low price of $499. That should make it even easier to park that trailer.
Have you played around with where on the trailer you're parking the sleds? Sometimes, just a few inches forwards or backwards shifts the counter-balance point that could make a significant difference on how much grunt you need to use to move the trailer tongue. Just keep enough weight on the tongue to keep towing safe.

permafrost 12-29-2005, 07:12 AM James, I just purchased a new trailer and it came with a trailer jack. I LOVE it no bending over and lifting the trailer. My back is liking it very much. I havent really used one of the dolly's so cant comment on it. I like the trailer jack cause I can lower it right onto the trailer with zero lifting.

MUSKOKA800 12-29-2005, 09:27 AM My single enclosed has a crank down with swivel wheel.
Sure buggers off down the driveway fast if I forget to choke the trailer tires. YIKES! w00t
paul yarek 12-29-2005, 09:41 AM as i understand it the trailer dolly is one of those things that has 2 small wheels and a T handle. this thing is used to hook up under the trailer hitch so you maneuver the trailer around. i see that this would be handy but more pain then gain because where would you store it? it would always seem like it is in the way. trailers aren't that hard to handle.
milrlite 12-29-2005, 09:46 AM I have a trailer jack with the swivel wheel on mine and it works just fine. Plus, I don't have to worry about another thing such as a trailer jockey to take up space in the garage.
With the trailer jack, it also works a little easier for you if you get a handle to bolt, clamp, or welded onto the tongue to assist you in lifting and guiding. It's pretty simple and I would think much easier for ya.
me&mymxz 12-29-2005, 05:15 PM The storage of the dolly would be a pain.
Thanks for the input

Bought it with the best intentions, just found the trailer jack with a lubed swivel wheel works just fine.

that is what happens when the pain isn't worth the gain.
