: How Much Oil Do You Burn?
SLeD_nEcK 01-02-2006, 10:24 PM Hey everyone. I've always been wondering if my sled is burning more oil then it should. So far i have 200 miles on one tank and there's about 6-8 cm of oil left in the pit (04 F6 EFI). Just wondering how much oil your sled burns, either per tank of gas or miles/gallon of oil. Anyhting approximate is good. I'd like to compare my oil consumption to other sleds out there. To me, it dosen't seem to be the greatest, i ride hard but seems a little thirsty with the oil. Thanks for any replies.

I get around 3 tanks of gas to 4L of oil on my 02 mxz 800.
michahicks 01-02-2006, 11:30 PM Something in the area of 50:1 is what you should be getting. 1 pint to 6 gallons of gas, 1 qt to 12 gallons, etc.
snofrog 01-03-2006, 04:54 AM right at 1 qt per 100 miles
rvanderklok 01-03-2006, 07:28 AM 160 kms......and just added about 1/2 litre to top it off. However, this is 160 kms of SLOW riding because our trails are garbage right now. Harder riding, should prove more oil consumption...
Smackz 01-03-2006, 08:25 AM I get 50;1 on my m/c 2 tanks gas 1 tank oil and thats even in the deep stuff but my friends sled same as mine but 600 gets 1 to 1 lol and smokes alot lol but i bet its well lubbed lol
800renegaaade 01-03-2006, 10:29 AM It seems like the dealers always set the sled up to run rich. Have you been fouling plugs?
poor farmer/logger 01-03-2006, 10:36 AM I'm at about 2.5-3 tanks of gas to one tank of oil.

permafrost 01-03-2006, 10:54 AM Good thread sledneck, I was gonna post the same question. My 03 gade has become a PIG on oil. On a return trip from south river it mysteriously used all of its oil. I also had a defective oil sensor light=blown motor. On my last ride of the season last year it used a full tank of oil again in a 350km ride. I checked my throttle play and it was out qutie a bit. I changed it back to normal but havent been on a ride long enough this season to measure oil consumption rates. I am thinking if that doesnt solve it, I have a faulty return arm on my oil pump.

FishHog 01-03-2006, 02:14 PM miles per litre of oil means absolutely nothing, every sled will be different on every day. There is only one way to figure it out, and that is oil:gas.
Measure how much oil you used in volume. In other words how many litres of oil did you use to how many litres of fuel. You should be around 50 parts fuel to 1 part oil.
the important part is the concentration of oil in the gas you put through your sled. Depending on riding style, temperature, snow conditions, etc, your fuel mileage will change. So figure it out by volume of fuel used and adjust your oil pump accordingly.
any other way is just a guess, and it can be an expensive guess if your wrong.
jrsue 01-03-2006, 04:45 PM 2004 800 HO Renegade Oil and MPG
11.9 to 12.5 mpg
116 to 120 miles per tank
267 miles per oil tank 3.6 qts
320 miles per gal oil
80 miles per qt oil
burns .4 oz oil per mile
burns 4.7 oz oil per gal gas or 27:1
FASTBLACK800CAT 01-03-2006, 05:08 PM Good info here....I've been wondering about my own sled and the amount of oil it uses. Seems like it uses a lot.... these comsumption ratio's will help me check it out!!!!!
SLeD_nEcK 01-04-2006, 11:37 PM thanks guys, i appreciate the inputs. I'll have to check out my oil to gas ratio and see what's going on. Although looks like i'm not the only one in the world with this problem which is relieving in a way haha. Geeze, if only they could... *clears throat*... sorry, if the WOULD** produce an -->efficient<-- gas and oil consumming motor, most carburant burning engins in are only 27% efficient compared to the 80% efficient motors they are capable of building. More then double the mpg. Can only point the finger at companies like Exxon Mobil only in it for the money and don't give a you know what about the environment. Don't want to start a political war hear, just excercising the old "freedom of expression" haha. As for oil, prices just keep going up, no 2 ways about it. Bring on the hydrogen motors.
BearCat2003 01-05-2006, 05:45 AM I don't burn any oil at all!!!! :D
I get anywhere between 18 and 23 mpg.
I'm not into speed, my machine is for hauling loads not A##!! w00t
CATTRACKS 01-05-2006, 07:24 AM Almost dead on with Snofrog , 1 quart per 100 miles which relates to almost 50 to 1 ratio since i burn 10 gallons of gas in that distance.
