I have a 2000 polaris XC 500 Sp and the drive shaft broke in it. I was wondering if there is problem in the suspension that could cause this. Also is there a company that sells a stronger drive shaft. Any help would be appreciated.
I've just learned the hard way that having your track too tight can cause shaft failure.
I've just upgraded to a 136 inch track using the Tracks USA kit. Not knowing any better I set the tension to the factory spec. 360 miles later my brand new drive shaft broke.
I've fixed the sled and have looked closer and the setup with the factory spec for tension and found that it was so tight that my suspension wouldn't travel properly, which causes the track to pull on the driveshaft.
So far I've loosend the tension 3 full turns on the adjuster without ratcheting and regained proper suspension travel.
