I have a 2002 600 xcsp, I blew a belt after just 500 miles. Is this normal or could it be a defect in the belt. I was just curious what your thoughts were, I'm tempted to go back to the dealer where I bought the belt and see if they'll give me a new one for free.

*i have over 5000 kilometers on a belt that i replaced only because i was going on a 4 day tour, the width is still the same as new and it is under my hood as a spare. when i need it i am going to leave it on till it starts coming apart. i think your problem must be alignment.

belts last all diff times.......but by the sounds of it i'd say it was defective and they should give you a new belt free....I had a Dayco Max 2 and i put only about 700miles tops on it before it started falling apart

i'd be surprised if anyone got a new belt under warranty but wonders never cease. i have not very often seen a manufacturer go to the wallet for wear items.

I have used belts for over 5000 miles without being able to see any significant wear. OTOH, I have also seen 'belts blow up' which were virtually brand new. I belt taken care of at all times can last a long time but, then again, a belt can be so damaged in a few seconds that it will fail with very few miles on it. Consider everything you've done with that belt. If you can honestly say that you went easy on it when it was new, you've never forced it to turn a cold, stiff track or raced with it before it was warm, and you've never made a bit of 'blue smoke' with it, then you probably have a right to a new belt under warranty.

I've never tried to get a belt replaced because I have probably been at fault in the failure of any belt as defined by the warranty. Some belts seem to be more forgiving of abuse. I haven't seen anything to predict it but I have had the best luck with belts that match the brand of the machine, maybe because I am a bit more careful with things I pay more for.

I am running the original belt on *a 99 RMK600 with 4500 miles on it. It has no cracks and width is still the same as new. I think you got a defective belt but I doubt they will warranty it. Have them check your clutch alignment though for the possible reason why it went out so soon.

I'm not easy on anything, just ask my wife..lol. But I dont think I ride my sled any harder than the next guy, and I also believe in taking care of my property the best way I can, *It's possible my clutch is out of line somehow I guess, Ill talk to the dealer and see what he has to say about it.

I went to the dealer yesterday, he replaced my belt no questions asked. He said they've been having problems with that particular belt. Whew! I figured I'd have to shell out fifty bucks for a new one.

I have a 1990 indy 500. *I put a brand new Dayco Max belt on. *It is the right one for the sled. *I broke it in nice and slow, but the threads seem to be pulling out. *The belt only has 110 miles on it, I noticed the threads when it had only 65 miles on it. *Could this be a bad belt or is my alignment out to? http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I`m surprised, but I guess if it was a known defect that helped. we see wear grass draggin so *much so that even though the beltst look good they only last about 30 to 40 passes *before the *clutching is no longer optimal... but the same sleds on the trail I expect to only *use a belt a season , and usually I can even run one of the grass dragged belts and not see a difference in the snow

you should definitely check your center to center distance on the clutches.
