Myself, and all previous owners of my sled have ran my sled with only Bombardier oil, I was just wondering if it's a big deal to switch oils do to the price and inconvenience to get Bombardier oil. I know it won't harm anything, but should I stick with Bombardier oil?

The only thing you are doing by continuing to run Bombardier branded oil is to keep more money in their pockets. They do not manufacture the oil, it is all produced by the oil companies and rebadged. Often it is the exact same or very similar oil to what can be had in non manufacturer branded oil. The oils the manufactuers sell are designed to be good oils, and they work fine, but when compared to a similar oil in a generic oil manufactuers bottle, they tend to be higher priced. If you feel better running their oil, keep doing it, but you will in no way hurt it by switching to a quality oil that is not labeled by them. For the same money, you will get a better oil in most cases, and as you say, there are more options as to where to buy it.

Hi Ski-Doo men and women!

I ran Blue Polaris oil from 1995 to now and this is the best i test. I test ski-doo regular and Castrol .Polaris the best for engine oil run more than 50,000 km on it!

I've ran and even broken my engines in with AMSOIL. Much cleaner than Bombi's oil and priced nice as well.

im not so sure about thats amsoil, it is expsensive and from what ive herd from talking to mechanics at the arctic cat/yamaha dealer ship i work for, it isn't really that great, what one of the mechanics said was that any oil that is designed for atvs' jet skis, snowmobiles, bikes.........well thats just a farce. To a point I agree with him, I have been running bombardier oil in my sleds for the last few years and switched over to shell synthetic sled oil this winter and its a little cheaper and much easier to get ahold of.

so oil designed for sleds is a farce...yet you buy sled oil....
I run amsoil in everything...2 stroke oil is two stroke oil...and if I can get synthetic for the price of bombi dino oil, then yes, I will take the synthetic. Especially a reputable synthetic. I haven't had any problem with RAVEs sticking at all, and that's where you are going to see the effects of your oil in a skidoo.

I've pulled lots of Rotax engines apart that have been run on AMSOIL and you know what...they were freakin clean in side compared to running Bombi oil. My 04 Rev had the engine done under warrenty and my dealer asked me what type of oil I was running. I told him Amsoil and he could not belive how clean it left the engine.

Up to & including my '98 MXZ500, I always ran Bombi mineral oil. When I went to remove the RAVE valves to clean then it was very difficult to get them out of the cylinders. I switched to Amsoil & haven't had a problem w/ them sticking since.

I have been running BRP Synthetic oil in my 03 800 since new and have not had any problems. Just cleaned raves for the first time at about 3500 miles and they were not sticking and had very few deposits on them. It took maybe 1/2 hour to do both. (remove, clean and reinstall).

Freinds say that the synthetic oil stinks when they follow me. I am the only one running synthetic so I do not know for sure.

I am willing to try regular two stroke synthetic as the closest dealer to me is 30 miles and BRP oil is expensive. Thanks for the info!!

Castrol is a very good oil as far as the protection it provides your motor, but as you noticed it is not the cleanest burning. This makes it a less than ideal choice for exhaust valve motors.

As to Amsoil, some love it, some hate it. I haven't run it myself, but would be willing to try it. I'd rather try it and form my own opinion than to try and go on what I have heard from others. It seems to be that very few people are willing to give an honest review of it. They either believe it is the best oil or the worst oil ever made. I don't personally like their premix ratio suggestions however, 80:1 to 100:1 is just a touch too lean for my personal comfort level.

Been running Amsoil Interceptor oil for the last 3 years and have had no problems, my exhaust valves have been exceptionally clean every time I've removed them.

BRP's Syn oil stinks the worst. Some smell really nice actually. I have a riding partner that uses Blue Marble and it's smells like pancakes when he's in front of me.

It may be made by Castrol but it is not the same as what Castrol sells. BRP is pretty adament about that fact. Castrol makes BRP's oil to BRP's specifications.

Maybe if my sled smelled like pancakes, the other guys might be able to keep up. Thier fav riding place is lunch.

They should make an oil smell like pine trees. maybe then we could get the tree huggers off of our backs.

A side note about oil ratios. As anyone on here who had a new '98 Ski-doo knows the pumps were set up to deliver no oil from idle to the 1st 1/4 of throttle movement. My brother checked my sister in law's Formula 583 DL & the ratio was around 65:1 (& she doesn't putt putt along). Obviously he adjusted the pump to get it around 50:1. This was using Castrol dino oil.
