Hi all.

IF you had $5000 US to spend on an ATV what would be your choise for brand and model. Keep in mind that Im looking into 4x4's. Im not interested in 2wd.

Also, any recomendations on realy active ATV/Quad forums? Im finding that most are realy inactive and out of date.

Thanks In Advance!

I don't know what hapend, I had put a post on here a while back. Some how it got deleted or else it never went threw.

Anyways, here's what my plan is for this fall. I'm going to buy a Honda Rincon, they redid them for next year. Now it's a 680 instead of a 650 and it's fuel injected instead of carbed. Honda is a tried and true name around here, so that's what I'm going to stick with.

I've thought pretty hard about a bombardier as well, but I don't reall like the belt drive. I think the rest of the quad is good though.

:D We are Honda loyalists. If your going to use it for heavy work compare the Rubicon to the Rincon. I steered away from the Rincon because of the torque convertor automatic. IMO that the Rubicon will outwork the Rincon. SWRules

Which ever brand you go with I would recommend that it has independant suspension in the rear, sure makes for a nice smooth ride when 4 wheeling. I know A/C has it but stay away from the 400, way underpowered, the 500 works well. Suzuki also has it, not sure about the Honda but by far a better engine. Even the Polaris is good, did I leave any out?

I think that your right curious george. The Rincon is mostly a trail machine. I was also told though that if your working a Rubicon real hard the Hydrostatic Transmision will heat up. If you want a tough reliable simple machine the best all around one that honda makes is the 500 S imo. In canada you can get it in a Canadian Trail Version. I'm not sure what's available in the U.S., but this gives you adjustable shocks and some other goodies that make it ride a little nicer.

It really comes down to what you want to do with the quad I guess.

Bombi Outlander 660 or 400ho for me :)

Or Kawa Brute Force 650i

My brother has the 05 Poo Sportsman 500HO 3-4times back to the dealer since august, overheat 1st half hr,something lose in the clutch area, valve cover leaked and something else

Bros inlaw has the Kawa Prairie 700 and its gas and go bike not aware of any problems and he is a trapper and dependability is a must

but before I get a quad I will get a sled aka much more fun to ride :D

 The other half has the 2005 Can. trail edition. There is a big difference in the ride with the adjustable shocks. As for towing, plowing etc the 2004 works pretty good. We had a 2001 and 2003 450es before getting the Rubicons. I usually haul the same stuff all the time and we were conscerned with the performance of the Rubicon. To say the least it has worked out well. As for the Rincon it"s a great toy and will only get better. The reason we shyed from it the first gear isn"t as low as the 450,500 or the Ruby. There are a lot of good quads out there and it"s tough picking what"s right for your needs.
LOL Don"t anybody start a war now! SWRules

I'm not sure of the prices of the used quads in your area but I'd try and find a nice used 2002 or 2003 kawasaki praire 650. I was pretty surprised on the prices they are selling for here, cheaper then I thought they would be.
They are a proven reliable engine, chasis and drivetrain. They use the same style CVT transimission as a snowmobile so will need regular maintence as a sled.
They have plenty of power for fun on the trails and can also get any heavy work done if needed. Selectable 2wd and 4wd with locking front differintal. That'd be my choice for a used ATV to buy if I was to buy a 4x4.
