I'm sure like most forums, this question comes up all the time, but I'm looking at getting into snowmobiling and need some direction. Any good reads to help a newbie out? Also, the sled I'm looking at is a '99 Arctic cat 440 snopro, thoughts?

Thanks, sorry in advance if you just slapped yourself on the forehead and said "not this question again!"

hello eric welcome. a 440 sled is a good sled to start off nice and light good handling. no sure if you ever rode a sled before.?if not i would recomend riding on some fields to get the feel of the sled before going onto the trails. learn the hand signals before riding the trails
my first sled was a 81 skidoo citation 377cc that i bought in 86 .thats how i learned the sport of sledding and been riding every year since.AND REMEMBER THAT SLED WILL GET TO 70MPH PRETTY QUICK AND ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION FOR BUMPS,CORNERS, ICE ON THE TRAILS BECAUSE I STILL SCARE THE SHEET:) OUT OF MYSELF A FEW TIMES A YEAR.LOL GOODLUCK. :)

Oh yeah, I'm 22 and I've ridden snowmobiles a few times. A couple guided tours and once with a family friend.

I love to see someone getting into the sport that isn't looking at a 800 - 1000cc sled. The ZR440 is a great sled. A little agressive in the suspension dept, but good power and great handling. A darn fast 440.
Ride safe, ride sober, appreciate and respect land owners, STAY RIGHT, and have fun!
Welcome aboard.

Welcome to SW... Just be careful as this sport soon takes over and becomes a passion or in some people's opinion an "illness". I agree with these guys.. you picked a good sled to start with.

My suggestion would be to make sure you have waterproof , warm gear.. because having cold hands, feet ect will ruin your day.

Have a Blast. !

First off welcome to the site and into the sport. The sled your looking at is a very quick fun little sled but being a race sled it might be a tuning needing than you might want. A zr500 of that year will have close to the same power and handleing but is more of a pull and go sled. This is my opinon just look a sled over good before buying and have fun with it.
