help I have a new voltage regulator comming in less then 24hours, and I cant find the F*****.
I have seen some pics on teh internet and tracked the wires quickly, and still donw see it!!!!

could it be burried under the hood foam or is it bolted to the engine?

I have taken the air box off and thougth directly below it was there, but its looking like thats the cdi
hitachi type TiAo1- 17 710 is marked on it..im almost sure thats the cdi..

the voltage reg for this sled looks like a L shaped part kinda..
I cant find any good pic online of where it should be, that yamaha site shows it but its not a good pic..

any help would be great, sick of only riding in the day :(

Looks like it is mounted over on the right side of the tunnel by the chaincase, or the by the right foot pocket on the engine compartment side. They are normally mounted in that area on almost all othersleds as well, so thats where I would look for it. It only has one wire coming out of it as well, so if what you think is the CDI has more wires coming out as a CDI would, then look elsewhere for the voltage regulator.

ya the cdi has 2 groups of wires comming out of it..
1 has 4 singles and the other has 3 or 2 double plugs some Im sure thats not the voltage regulator:(

I was looking for something a bunch of wires might be comming in or out of..
I see by the pic theres only one on the voltage reg...

I shall look harder I guess, you think right side?

on the yamaha parts site its showing it to the left of the cdi.....guess would be the right side if your standing
in front of the sled..

Should be on the clutch side behind the secondary clutch bolted onto the kick plate (foot compartment).

Its right under the left kickplate :)

I guess Yamaha has to be completely backwards from the rest of the sled world and then provide confusing hard to read microfiche diagrams. Every other sled is normally mounted on the right side footpocket or chaincase. Sorry for the confusion, its been a while since I worked on an older Yamaha sled.

Ya I didnt jump right out at me thats for sure..and the diagrams showed it up under the hood
near the cdi...lol


However the new one should be at the house when I get there after work tonight :)

I am not back till monday at 2pm too........

ts gunna be a kick a** weekend of sledin cant wait..

FYI the new voltage reg in and sled , and now I have a headlight......

:) No more day only rides :)

Anyone ever taken apart the tach and speedo to try and replace the wee bulbs in there?

head and tail lights are easy to get at not so sure about the tach and speedo tho :(
looks at first glance like its a sealed unit..

The speedo and tach bulbs are replaceable. Normally the wires actually go into a socket that holds the bulb, and twists to lock into the tach/speedo. You should be able to simply twist the socket counterclockwise and then pop out the bulb, and reverse to replace them.

I see online here it looks like teh whole top of each twists off and yes it shows a wire with a bulb on the end....

will give it a try in the daylight....
