I noticed putting my airbox back on the other night,
that rubber boot has a good size of a crack/hole in it.
even tho the sled runns like a top, could this be causing the little mid throtle studder?
Is this also holding any performance back?
I been just thinking the wee studder was the nature of the beast...
I cant imagine it having any more power of speed then it does now..

It would be a good idea to replace the boot. It isn't particularly pricey, and the hole could let any dirt bouncing around in the engine compartment to be sucked into the engine. It could also slightly alter the tuning, and lean the jetting out slightly, or otherwise mess with your carb adjustments. It could be causing that stuuter as you call it, if it is affecting it enough.

Its more of a mid range bog (studder) (stutter)lol
when I put my thumb into it a bit more the power band is rigth there and im gone..
Just thinking it mabee sucking more air in there then it should..
I have heard of some guys hiting 100 mph on the old exctiers
I think if it was cold enough out I might be able to..
however best ive seen is about 95 or a lil more..
its kinda hard to look down for long with this ride..lol
still got the hand held gps comming too hope to get some more acurate readdings with this..
Mabee Im just wishfull of breaking 100 mph mark on a 27 year old machine with almost 14000 miles..lol
but Im thinking that cracked rubber boot thing cant be gaining me anything

My buddy blew up his older Venture because he neglected that same rubber boot, there was lots of powder and some snow got sucked up and killed the motor, for the $20 to replace it might be a good idea....

just normal wear. it isnt uncommon for rubber to dry rot. id replace it soon before you blow up your sled.

I aggree id just replace it. It makes it to easy for it to suck up snow and toast your engine.
