we have 2 others on the fence right now and will let you know if they give me the thumbs up. We will take as many pictures as we can and will give everyone an update when we get back. Friday the 10th is the long haul and Saturday is cool down!

If you think you have the stuff to make next years let me know.. my sled will probably take a crap on the trail and we will be looking for someone to take my spot.

I have a modification for that back! the SC10 II skid, tested out on a 187 mile day and besides being a little darty the ride is a super improvement. My old mare goes 85 if we get the clutch springs in b4 the ride, so I might even be waiting for you :dazed:

Still I won't argue if anyone lets me put a few back relief miles on a better platform, I think after 200 it will be a little tough on the S chassis.

I can't wait to meet some of you that I haven't met yet either. I'm doing a warm up this weekend for next weekend....I haven't had any high mile days yet this season, so this friday Dan and I are gonna do a pretty good loop. We're leaving tonight for Grand Marais for 4 days, come back to work for 3 days and then back up riding for 3 days again....life is good!

P.S. Dan got his vacation approved..he'll be at the RTYP trip!

I have to work on Thurs so I won't be there until 9:30-10pm, if anyone needs a ride I have two spots open in the trailer. Or maybe just 1 if I bring the wifes sled to ride for the high mileage day.

78 mph downhill with the wind to my back! Those hamsters don't like it any other time.

Dan is going to try to be home around 2, I will get to his place and load up around 3 and we will probably pick Matt up around 4:30..... that would make ETA of around 10 for us, earlier if we can get Matt out of the nuclear power plant a little quicker. (he is our nite light)

Just talked to Sandy and she said everything is a go. Wanted me to let you guys know that clean linens are provided but to bring your own towels. She will have it unlocked and whenever we get there we get there on Thursday. She said come in the driveway and go to the right we are in the far trailer. If you need any more info let me know.

my age ... 42. i was checking miles on the map and it looks like it will be right around 380-400 miles for the "planned route " you guys may want to look into carrying a quart or two of your specific oil if that will be out of range for you...there will be plenty of gas stops along the way for those (ME) with a limited range on the fuel tank`s. friday is the hardcore day with saturday being a play day

issues ,opinions and ideas should be presented here and NOW not friday morning .please show up with full tanks so that is one less fuel stop .i`m sure there will be plenty of stops along the way for break`s. M

Talked to Snofrog this afternoon got a proposed route up as of right now. Remember how
things can change. When we get over to the Manistique area on trail 2 if the swamp is open
we will shoot up on CR448 towards Shingleton. I will be talking to Digger on that one,
he'll get us there one way or another! There will be a little 2 tracking and off trail riding
but not to much. I need the to be out on the trail by 8:30 am and estimated time back to Raco
is 10:00 pm. Snofrog will be taking us on the south loop and I will take over on the North loop.
My guess is a solid 325-350 miles!

I am worrying about my sled puking. 300+ miles was cool but 400+ miles, dunno. That seems like a lot bigger loop then even 400.

No shortcut Dave? I could lead through that section.

Pack it up!!! From Nancy @ the vagabond

Feb.5 1:18 pm Temp is 22. Well I guess winter has finally arrived. I would say we have blizzard conditions. Snowing and the wind is blowing it all around. It is very windy. This morning my "trusty measuring stick" said we had 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground, and a drift on the sidewalk that was 6 inches deep. (wouldn't ya know there was more where we had to shovel). Speaking of shoveling. We have shoveled the sidewalk three times already, and there is a drift on it again. It probably snowed more than that, it was just blowing everywhere. So my husband plowed the drive. Now we have another couple inches that I could measure. Some places it is drifted deep and some places, there is hardly any. You know you're a yooper when your snowblower gets stuck on the roof!! :)

this loop can be modified at several places along the way depending on how everything is going .time and mechanical issues or even mood of the crew . dont worry Matt i`m sure there will be several tow straps between us, remember your sled is newer than mine with less than 1/2 the miles of mine .our motto is YOU CAN DOOOO IT lol .M

btw i think i heard shd say that the last 100 miles were all down hill so theres that going for you

That is if my secondary spring ever comes in :bash:

I wouldn't do that to you guys during the Rtyp trip, even though SnoFrog is the only Amphibious sledder here :p SHD knows about me and water crossing, we crossed several small ones dure the Houghton trip. Sledhead and Renegademike drew the line on the last day though, I couldn't get them to cross a 12' wide x 1' deep creek to shave a bunch of miles off our trip towards Lac La Belle ....Being that Dave now has Flipper status, he just may be willing to go for it w00t

Well Matt came over to my house tonight SHD800 & Snofrog chipped in and gave Matt
a hand installing his 2 new springs primary and secondary. All went pretty well
considering the Helix wouldn't pop out of the secondary it did when I handed
a rubber mallet to Snofrog! :lmao: He was banging away for minutes on her! w00t

My guess is a solid 325-350 miles!

labudda

I get about 100 miles. You should be the one towing with the SDI

idooski
02-08-2006, 09:08 AM
The long tracks carry the extra fuel, you carry an auto syphon to share gas between sleds, and you take it easy the last leg. When you run out of gas try to stop next to a bank that you can get the 'reserve gas sled' up on to make the syphon easier. No problems. You guys will all be surprised at how many miles more than 100 you will get. (most of you anyway) Just be sure to shut down as soon as you feel a sputter to avoid a lean condition burn down.

Should be able to make 160-180 miles with both tanks full. So I'll have extra fuel if somebody needs it.

Who's bringing the hose?

labudda
02-08-2006, 01:12 PM
On another note who is bringing the pancake mix :dazed:

I have some garden hose at home. I will cut a length of that and put it around the dudes neck. Serves double purpose then, can pull him in when he gets to far ahead :D

I haven't had a little gas pump since I was a stupid teenager, so the garden hose is the best I have

Remember to bring Cash or a check for the room fees guys. They don't take credit cards :!:

Directions: Take I-75 north of the Bridge about 40 miles to the junction with Highway M-28. Go west on M-28 for 14 miles and watch for the sign for Northwoods Trails Cabins and Bunkhouses.

I always carry a syphon hose. RenegadeStick bought it for me last season when I ran out of gas outside of Grand Marias. I still have the taste of gas in my mouth :dazed:
I don't get real spectacular gas mileage with my SDI (around 12 mpg) due to the low gearing and track setup I have. Renegadesticks SDI with the smaller track and regular gearing gets around 14-15 mph, oddly enough hes the one who owns the tunnel gas can. :slick:

Matt !!

This is just a suggestion...If Rainbow Lodge is closed, We thought about the lower falls General store for gas..Go to Pike lake and down to the lower falls.. ( note: I don't know there hours you would have to check that out ) fill up there if you can and hit that south trail... cut out paradise altogether.

OR.

fill up some cans and leave them at your cabin.. then go there and top off and head to Raco..

Am I making any sense?

or we can go over the river and thru the woods, Siphon gas out of the tundra from the lockup, use the facilities and go through.... well I could tell ya but then I'd have to.....

If we hit either rainbow or Pike lake b4 they close we should have enough gas to make it back. I think we will be good to go. GM to Brimley w/out gas though just ain't gonna happen though.

Well, I'm home early due to my back puking at mile 270. I finished out the ride, at a "slightly" slower pace. ( OK, some of the guys may not agree with "slightly" but it's my story and thats what I'm sticking with. We only lost one sled, and that quit in the Jack Pines parking lot. How lucky is that?

Dave, where is the trail riding one?

Matt I will look into it. The best way to view these though is to do a save target then open elsewhere.

Yeah I am having problems as well, I will talk to Corey and see what we are doing wrong. Just like when I carve I know it is operator error lol

I couldn't even get the videos to up-load until opening them with Windows Movie Maker and then saving them as Windows Media Audio/Video file (wmav) after that everything worked perfect.

Send any videos my way, I'll see what I can do.

Dave was sitting shotgun and I was sleeping in the backseat. So the trailer is noticeable! Guess we will need to pay more attention from now on.

Trip went great, had a blast all 2 1/2 days and we had a great crew up there with us. I have my Blog updated from the Friday ride and will try to get Saturday and Sunday in there today.

Feeling much better Mark, thanks. Might even take the sled out for a little spin this weekend.

So what was the problem with the zrt? I know what you're saying about trusting her again.

Hope you guys had a blast.

shoot me a pm and let me know if you have pics, if you have already sent them, etc,,,, I will get working on everything asap.
Dave, I have a program that I can work the videos into the movie maker program. I had the same problem getting those from Houghton to the right format, but was finally able to get it taken care of.
I also need any pics that were taken from Houghton so I can eventually get started on that one also.
Let me know of anything special,,, background music or whatever that you might want in there also,,,
thanks
Brian
