I used TPI's UFO's on my old 583 and was pleased w/ thier performance. I would like to put a set on my DPM equipted 700, but always assumed my DPM would not be compatable. Anyone use them w/ DPM? Did they work or just cancel each other out? How about jetting?

I tried to call TPI direct on this, but they are closed for remodeling till the 8th. Thanks.

Anyone like them as much as I do regardless of the sled?

Did the 700s still have round slide carbs?

Most people hated the ufo's becuase they were so f'n difficult to set up. I am sure you already have your pilot jet either changed out to the largest size or have it drilled out. If not I don't think your set up right. Regardless, If the sled has flat slides I don't think ufo's will work. The ufo's made a round slide sled think it had flat slides (better throttle response). If the 700 w/dpm is anything like my brother 01' I don't think throttle response can get anybetter.

My 700 was a spring special and had VM 40 round slide carbs and w/ my 583 I had to go w/ half the stock pilot jet, not bigger. (ie: 45 to a 20-25) The sled runs super crisp and the plugs are perfect. I put 4000 hard miles on the UFOed 583 w/ not glitches. The sled has 8000+ miles on it now and still starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull. I got the UFOs from Thunder before they were offered to the public, but they set me up w/ good guidence for jetting and it was a one shot deal no trial and error stuff. I have full confidence in them I just don't have info on DPM capability....

If you do indeed have round slides they should work with the DPM...

Just give Lon a call and he will talk to you about it....great guy!!

what are ufos?? I'm curious of what kind of mod makes you have to cut your main jet size in half...

Thunder Products (http://www.thunderproducts.com/u_f_o.htm)

yes the DPM should be ok with that mod, once you jet it at -4f. I seem to remember those going in the trash on the 700's though. what doo I know though. :lmao:

Pilots not mains please don't confuse that part!!! KABOOOOOOOMMMMMM!

Thunder products makes them, they came out a some years ago. They fill that "bowl" in the bottom of a round slide and reduce turbulance of the fuel charge. Better atomization and all that. Snowtech Magazine did a write up on them when Lon had first thought of it and sent them protos to be tested. They were testing after winter was over so flow benches were used and I'm sure a few warm weather jetted sleds, anyway they were unproven, at the time, in snow/cold so I wrote a letter to TPI and Lon sent me a pare at there now standard price of #30/carb. He included some theory/flow bench figures for jetting and it specified cutting the pilot in half and drop one on the mains. (Hence the better fuel economy claims they make.) It was a hard pill to swallow, but the plugs were checked at all throttle positions and I was confident of no lean spots in the fuel circut. I must reiterate that this was a long time ago and they were in thier infancy, what thier spec sheets suggest now is unknown to me, but like I said I put 4k miles on since.

I know I got a little chatty, but that should cover it all.

What do you mean? I have a bit of an issue w/ surprises on the '00 700 ( you might remember my crank issues from winter '04) as your last sentence suggests so do you. Doo tell. What should I be checking to see if the DPM is still functioning? Also is it true that MXZ DPMs don't compensate for altitude only temp?

I know of no problems with it love it, the dpm. the trash was the ufo's. what I should have said was once you jet at -4 the system will compensate from there. now I am sure the dpm does both on all sleds. the first dpm I seen was on a GT 700 triple that done enrichment for choking it ,thats not on them(mxz). and they used the HAC system in the mountains, they have dpm now as well. what I want to know is , is he saying I can lean down one main from what I have now? or what it had stock? because every doo I have owned has taken 2 under mains .

It was leaned down one from stock according to the directions. I tried to find them from the set I installed on my 583, but I must have lost them. Don't quote me on it just yet. Incidently I went down two sizes on that 583 after I bought it, before I ever thought of UFOs.

which leads me to think the gains felt are from proper jetting not the ufo's. on the motor dyno the ufo's showed no gain over an earlier pull.
