Coming from the back? Rear main seal. If the leak is from in front, behind the pullies, then from the front main seal. Valve cover gaskets are a cheap fix, and judging from the year of the truck, likely due.

If it has the 5.0 L engine they had a problem with the oil pan gaskets blowing out, they make a new updated gasket for them now but it is a major pain in the butt to change in the truck, I know I had one and now drive a GMC.
Also look for rust spots on the oil pan . These spot will start an oil leak as time goes on. Sometimes it's better to pull the motor out to replace the oil pan and rear main seal and the front crank seal. Also you my want to look at the freeze plugs too? This is only mine opinion. GOOD LUCK :(

i have a 300 |6 manual .. the oil pan is not rusted at all it "looks" to be commin form above the oil pan its not commin from the oil pan plug i already changed the seal on that
Danny, the leak is probably coming from the lifter side cover,if it is leaking from the drivers side.

Hey team artic, you can change that gasket without actually taking the pan out of the truck(which is a pain,as you have to take the pump, pickup and drive out inside the pan). What we do is lift the trans mount about three quarters of an inch, remove the fan shroud and mount nuts. This is where the ship in a bottle part comes in, get a new updated ford 1 piece reinforced gasket and drop it into the pan which will be hanging down about 3 to 4 inches now,and simply fish it out of the pan and start feeding it up to the pan rails. We can usually knock one of the gaskets off in around an hour. The tricky part is getting the now oillly gasket to stick to the block esspecially the rear locating dowels. Hope this helps free up some time to work on your cat(you probably need it)
