Just wondering if any of you guys knew the difference between the older 9 tower clutches (97 580 style) compared to the newer ones
the major difference i can seen is that the older one has three triangles at the top, and the new one has 2.
you guys know the differences strength wise between these two?
i was interested in buying an older 9 tower, but i was wondering if maybe there was a problem with these so they switched to the new style.
just wondering, please let me know

The newer 9 post clutches are much heavier duty. AC had problems with some of them back in 97 and started beefing up the spider and movable sheave. They seemed to continue to add material every year until the switch to the 6 post on performance models.

How much?

I would check it over with a fine tooth comb....look for cracks everywhere! Check the rollers in the spider too...
